Dec. 2019 - Jan. 2020, hunted with family and friends and picked some medicine plants for the winter teas. I got to visit with friends in Saranac and Schuyler ...Falls. The winter bloom - Witch Hazel plants are showing their yellow blossoms and the seed pods are all open now and their seeds have scattered. This is a very beautiful plant to see its in it's natural state with the yellow blossom in the cold winter. We also got to gather some balsam and white pine branches for the medicine teas. The balsam smells real good. The balsam can be used for many more things - in some photos, we have shared the balsam pillows. I remember when I was small that the Balsam and Spruce were heated in water on the stoves to make a nice pine smell throughout the home. Many people did this. I also took some scenery shots in the woods while hunting of the deer trails, the fog and mist, and a clear shot of the moon and stars (planet). I also got some photos of the tree left standing by the beaver carver, snow falling, and icicles hanging on my porch as the sun was rising one morning. Also managed to get a snap shot of an owl on a tree limb today. He sat still long enough for a pic, the kids were amazed to be so close to him. Was able to do this throughout the month as it was a more relaxing winter than usual while I am waiting for the winter fishing to start once the ice is safe enough. Niawen:kowa!
