There are still a few calendars at Mrs B's Country Candy

After receiving his calendar, Craig Kerr had the following recollection: "The picture on the front cover of the 2021 Brighton Digital Archives calendar of the train station brought back so many memories and reminded me of the importance that this transportation service had in its day. In the 1940s, my family operated the largest greenhouse and floral business in the region on what is now Butler Street West. It operated as The Kerr Greenhouses. The custom in those days, when ...any member of the community passed, was to send floral arrangements to the funeral home as a mark of respect. The more prominent the citizen, the greater the size and number of the floral arrangements. The time available for producing these arrangements was very limited. As soon as a death was announced, my father would telephone The Dale Estates, which was a large floral supplier of roses in Brampton. The call would be made early in the morning, and the same night at midnight we would meet the train from Toronto to pick up the order of flowers. After that, it was 'all hands on deck' for the next two or three days until all the arrangements were made and delivered to the funeral home. The train station was a vital link in the success of our business. Countless other stories exist about the importance and role of this station in the lives of Brightonians of the day. " Pictured below are Elizabeth and John S. Kerr, Craig's parents.

Why is Mrs. Claus smiling? It's because she has a message for all the boys and girls in Brighton. Tune in on Friday, November 27th and see her deliver her special message. Plus she will be letting us know when Santa himself will be speaking to us. You can link from this page or go right to Youtube. Don't miss Mrs. Claus!

We are looking for information and photos of this Mennonite Church that once stood on County Road 64 at the Brighton Swing Bridge. The photo below was taken the day it was torn down. To it's left (west) was a store now replaced by a boat and trailer storage facility. Thanks to Bill Murtha for this photo.

Brighton has always supported Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre by organizing its own annual Walk a Mile event. This year, 2020, that event went virtual. Brighton Digital Archives is pleased to have produced the video capturing the event and encourages everyone to consider making a donation to Cornerstone (go to cornerstone northumberland.ca). They are the only women's shelter in Northumberland County and their services have never been more in demand than they are now. #walkmyway
