Variety is the spice of life! ~ Here is a couple of fun little before and after pictures of a few guitar necks I recently completed. ~ The raw wood necks have completely unique headstock styles.....no two are ever the same (and I like it that way). Each one is free hand drawn! No templates, no copies......all original and different!!... ~ Strategically drilled holes for the tuning pegs and the leather hanging strap are completed and then multiple coats of hand rubbed polyurethane are applied for a durable finish. ~ You may have noticed that the three necks in the middle are a wee bit different than the rest! ~ You will have to stayed tuned to see what I have hatching in my tiny brain now!! I often mention the term functional art in my posts. My cigar box guitars are (at least to me) pieces of functional art. They look beautiful, they are unique, they are pleasing to the eye, and they serve a function....you can play them and make music!! ~ The hand crafted pens pictured here are also pieces of functional art! SOLD!! ~ Bennie & the Hedge is off to Edmonton, Alberta!! ~ Steve (who is a transplanted Aussie from the land of Oz) is the proud new owner of this great guitar.... ~ I originally had difficulty with the idea of selling Bennie because I really liked the feel and sound. It fit my fat little fingers rather well and was very comfortable to play. In the end, I did decide to list it and Steve was first to respond. NEW GUITAR RELEASE!!! ~ Bennie & the Hedge is the latest guitar release from the @61nickelguitars workshop!! ~ Bennie & the Hedge is a bit of a tongue in cheek tribute to the Elton John song, Bennie and the Jets.... ~ The guitar body is a beautiful and naturally aged Benson and Hedges cigar box. It is so perfectly aged that all I wanted to do was to hit it with a few coats of satin polyurethane to preserve the patina. You just can’t get a better box to celebrate the 20th guitar to be built in the Vintage Series!! ~ I wanted the box to be the focus so I decided to keep it simple. I added a reclaimed humbucker style pickup to give it a really warm tone and some brass plates for the chicken head control knobs and 1/4 cable jack. The vintage tulip style tuners in light green really add to the look. A single, hand cut f-hole for sound and a bowtie shaped bridge made from Walnut allow the old graphics to show through. ~ The scarf joint neck is made from Red Oak that has a rather swampy looking variable grain which fits perfectly with the theme. The fretboard is Black Walnut (with Birch fret dots) and also features a varied grain pattern to match the Red Oak neck. Now this is just too cool!! ~ Roman (from Winnipeg) recently purchased the Spear & Jackson guitar and the Detrola amplifier from @61nickelguitars ! ~ He sent me these pictures of the guitar and amp with his beautifully restored 1953 Dodge Ram truck!! This truck is amazing and looks absolutely perfect with the guitar and amp! SOLD! ~ Stephanie, from the beautiful Province of Quebec, ordered this great little guitar from the website yesterday for a Christmas gift. ~ The Partagas Cigar Box Guitar is a straight forward 3 string fretless electric slide guitar. Plain and simple!!... ~ She has two large sound holes which make it loud enough to play acoustically but when you need a bit more volume you can plug it in. She is equipped with a piezo disc style pickup mounted under the box lid and has a single tone control. ~ The guitar has a straight style Maple neck with fret markers burned into the top edge to benefit the player. The 1961 Canadian nickel, a leather hanging strap, and vintage style tuners complete the headstock design. The bridge and nut are fashioned from pieces of threaded rod and the corner protectors are antiqued brass! ~ Partagas is fun, really easy to learn to play, and celebrates the history of the simple Blues Box! ~ Thank you Stephanie for your support.
