670 Collective MTB Club 07.02.2021

Heads up to anyone who was crazy enough to want to go skiing tomorrow!

670 Collective MTB Club 01.02.2021

It was cold the day I rode this, but no where near as cold as it is going to be this weekend down here! Yuck! Anyway, a little option line off Death Valley with some rock features. It's fun to see what our local trailbuilders can come up with when they find some natural features to integrate into the trails.

Here's some pretty good exposure for the club. If you want to be a part of some builds in the Park or around the Hat/Redcliff, membership season is coming soon!

Hardtail Canada is an online community recently started and based out of Calgary. You can submit your hardtail build to them and they will put it online and give a little shout out to the 670. There will be a couple features on the 670 riding areas coming out in the next month or two.

Looks like Wade is starting to really progress in his descents. He's riding way steeper lines than the previous mugs! Reposted from @mudtoarock Here is ‘Night Ride,’ a new bike mug prototype(work in progress)inspired by my hubby @wadeinthesudan (pictured on the mug) who put in over 300km of riding this January. Unheard of!!! - This mug is hand carved and painted. It holds 18-20oz. I’ll be introducing it in the February 28th restock, along with a couple other surprises. ... I’m thinking of improving this line with a sapphire, twilight sky. What do you think? See more

This seems to be a thing to do on the last day of 2020! Nine small squares inside one large square to show the most liked posts of the last year Big thanks to Ben S for running the show on here for most of the riding season. And to the board of the 670 for pivoting multiple times with everything that was thrown our direction this year, especially Allison for being president in this weird year. Of course a huge thanks to our members, both old and new. We look forward to... seeing everyone in person and back on the trails - with bikes or shovels in hand (or both, but not at the same time!). 2020 was a tough year for many so if you do find yourself in a tough time, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are a club of members who care and we want you to get through whatever may be in your life.

The flatter trails in Redcliff seem quite rideable even with regular tires. But anything with slopes have lots of snow blown in. Slow burn and Tequila have a few tracks already so go for a ride if you so desire. The bare spots in the sun will start getting slick with mud on warmer afternoons so the spots you think have the most traction might just be the ones that put you on your face!

Have you ever wondered what using the wrong tools on a fork can do? Well I found out so that you don't have to. Part 1 of 8 starts now! https://www.instagram.com/tv/CJYmuZuHhqH/

Tombstone is a new machine built, green PB and J trail in the new cemetery (get it?) section of Redcliff. As tasty as a PB and J trail sounds, it actually stands for Pumps, Bumps and Jumps. Or it might stand for Pumps, Berms and Jumps. I find both online and I find both on the trail too. Some maybe it's a PBB and J trail? I have no idea what that might mean, but I sure don't think a Lead, Boron and Jam sandwich would be good... In this clip you will see what is meant by the c...lever little phrase "pre-ride, re-ride, free-ride" because if you hit the jump on the top of the ridge without knowing where the landing is, you will go all the way down to Dirt Nap at the bottom of the slope. And probably have a little dirt nap for yourself. And that brings up a good point going into spring (whenever and however many times it arrives): trails change over winter, especially in Redcliff. So even though you might know the trails like the back of your hand, take it easy for the first couple runs to see what may have changed over winter and during the melt(s).

DMZ is a short blue trail that connects the Redcliff trails with Mr Burnside from Medicine Hat. It ties in at the junction of Death Valley and Tequila Sunrise, giving numerous options for extending your ride coming in from the Hat. Coming from Redcliff, it accesses Mr Burnside and the short blue loop known as Carl's Revenge. DMZ highlights the need to stay on designated trails, both because of the issues with erosion from shortcutting switchbacks and the potential safety... issues with riding off trail with deep gullies hiding in tall grass. So please remember to keep to those trails that have had so much hard work put into them, both in the land of the 670 and anywhere else you ride.

Merry Christmas from the 670 Collective. At the end of a year most may want to forget, think back on the good times rather than the bad, the relationships that have grown rather than shrunk, and the opportunities to come rather than those lost. As we approach Covid Christmas with all the changes we have been dealt, let us not forget that for some in our communities, this Christmas will be the same as usual. Some don't ever get to spend time with friends or family for vario...us reasons. So rather than wallow in the changes outside our control for this year, let us instead endeavor to make Christmas special for those whose Christmases are never that. And let us continue to do that in the years to come. Thanks very much to one of our members for sharing this great wreath crafted by his wife.

There are this many left at the Hat's Olive Tap.

Tequila Sunrise is blue trail that winds its way along the river, connecting the lower Death Valley trails (and Burnside) with the west Redcliff trails. There are also the two black trails of Frigidaire and Billy Goat accessible from it. Along your ride, you get to see red shale (close up if you miss a corner), river (close up if you miss a corner), sagebrush (see above), cliffs (as above), slumps, and beautiful vistas (guaranteed). There is also a ride around currently being constructed for the usually wet area near the west end to connect the end of Billy Goat with the last climb of Tequila that will make the area much more rideable early in the season and after rains.

Join Dan the Cyclepath salesMAN as he takes us through the recent bike mounted tool offerings available now. Cyclepath is one of the 670's main sponsors and there are perks to being a member when you shop at either of the local bike shops.

This is Mitchell Creek Connector, a green flow trail that bypasses riding the roads in Elkwater Campground to connect the bottom of Mitchell Creek and Mazama Drop with the pump track/skills area at the Visitor's Centre via Turkey Trott. Being this bidirectional trail is near the campgrounds, it can be quite busy so watch out for other riders, hikers, kids, dogs, etc. I've come to realize that many of the Elkwater trails I filmed this fall feature @jared_stach and his caboose. So for your viewing pleasure, here it is again. And if you want to see it for longer than 25s at a time, search for the 670 Collective on YouTube for more!

There are two types of sponsors of the 670. Some give money, products or time to the club, and some give deals to our members (and some do both!). Today we want to recognize @stationcoffeeco for the discounts they have given to 670 members. They are a great independent coffee shop with some excellent baking in downtown Medicine Hat. If you have never been or are travelling through the City, go and check them out. They are easily accessible from the Trans Canada for passers by.

A view from Mr Burnside's east end. Trail is dry, wet, mud, ice, snow packed and drifted -all within view of the parking lot. There are some tracks: human, bike and antelope. Remember if you do decide to ride this weekend that any ruts will stay well into spring so don't be that guy or girl. And by the look of it, studs are going to be useful, unless you want an extreme close up of the trail that is! If so, please be sure to film it.

A little clip of a flowy section on Mr. Burnside. This 5.6km green cross country trail connects the paved Medicine Hat Heritage trail network to the riding in Redcliff. There is a large parking lot on the east side trailhead for access if you drive. There are a few gradual climbs, some flowy sections, and some soft sand and cobbles close to the east end to keep you on your toes. But hopefully off your face. It is a great introductory trail for beginner riders looking to get o...f pavement, a good way to connect to Redcliff without driving, and has some beautiful views of the river valley as you wind through the prairie. #medicinehat #mtbalberta #albertamtb #yxh

Looking for something to do this weekend? Jake has been pounding the streets downtown talking to local businesses. There is even an appearance by 670 President Ben! Follow the Station, watch the videos, enter the tournamentget outside, help the women's shelter, and even maybe win something. Just a note that the required rounds of disc golf have gone down to two, unlike what is on the graphic. ... Reposted from @stationcoffeeco The weekend looks like it’ll be beautiful, and we want to do something fun without breaking COVID rules. Therefore: #discgolf

Another trail clip today. This one from Elkwater on Last Grizzly. It is a downhill only trail with lots of berms and this drop which does have a flowy ride around. The big berm at the end of the video is a lot of fun too. It does look like we are done with the riding at Elkwater for the season as there are reports of waist deep snow out there and that won't leave until April or May. ... Also reports of fat bikes flying off the floor (maybe they put helium in those big balloon tires???) with this early snowfall so if you want to ride on top of some snow this year, better get that lined up ASAP. #albertamtb #elkwater #cypresshills #670collective
