Here's a neat opportunity... Creative Writing for Teens: Workshop with Lindsay Wong Join us for a creative writing workshop on using social media for inspiration with bestselling, award-winning author Lindsay Wong! Presented in partnership with the Ottawa International Writer’s Festival , Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada.... Monday, November 30, 2020 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. EST The event will be broadcast live on YouTube. Presentation in English with simultaneous French translation. Ellen Chang-Richardson hosts a discussion and workshop with Lindsay Wong! We will talk about her first YA novel, My Summer of Love and Misfortune - a hilarious, quirky story about a Chinese-American teen who is thrust into the decadent world of Beijing high society when she is sent away to spend the summer in China. Through a variety of fun writing exercises and prompts, we’ll draw inspiration from our own texts and social media accounts to create realistic dialogue and compelling narratives from our daily lives. You’ll learn how to potentially turn a 280 character Tweet into the basis for a short story and to transform an ongoing text conversation into vivid dialogue between two characters. The last 20-25 minutes of the workshop will be for sharing your writing and Q&As. Bring your questions! Someone get Lindsay Wong into a witness protection program for revealing--and illuminating--the secrets that Asian families prefer to keep hidden away. She is caustic, observant, relentless, and, in my opinion, the future of Asian Canadian writing. Kevin Chong Note: This workshop is intended for teens (ages 13-17) who are passionate or curious about creative writing. All levels are welcome. You can attend via Zoom (please register to receive the link) or by Facebook Live.
