Six String Nation 04.04.2021

I'm going to be doing regular posts covering ALL of the pieces that make up the Six String Nation guitar (Voyageur) as well as ALL of the pieces incorporated in...to the case and onto the strap. So I was thinking: where do I start? Well, let's start at the top (and on the front) with a piece that's been on my mind lately thanks to a new book now in development called That Night At Massey Hall. While the "grand old lady of Shuter St." is closed for a major renovation project, it's a great opportunity to reflect on what this venue means to the city of Toronto and to the music history of Canada. The revered place it holds among music fans worldwide comes from a very visceral and very personal place. That's what the authors of the book are trying to capture and it's why I sought to include this piece in the creation of the Six String Nation guitar. Love this shot with the helpful staff of Chapters Rideau Centre staff who sold books at an #ETFO event at the Shaw Centre a couple of years ago. Thank you!

I was inspired to set up this page after responding to Tom Wilson's invite to like his book page. I think it's time to give the book some new attention for a few reasons: 1. To celebrate. This book actually qualifies as a bestseller! It sold out its first print run of some 7500 hundred copies and is now into a second printing from Douglas & McIntyre Ltd, now part of Harbour Publishing... 2. To agitate for a French language version. Come on, this book really should be in both official languages, don't you think? And it starts of with the extraordinary bilingual poem I commissioned from the late, great Robert Dickson, so it's only fitting. 3. To agitate for a second edition. Since this book was published in 2009, we've covered so much more ground, met so many more people, taken so many more portraits, heard so many more stories and added a few of our own in the form of new materials added to the case and strap. It's time. 4. To get to Frankfurt. Canada will be the guest of honour at the famous Frankfurter Buchmesse in 2020. I believe the project should have a presence there as a great way of sharing a great story about Canadian diversity supported by Canadian music. So far, my attempts to reach out to decision makers involved with the event have been unsuccessful and I'd like to galvanize some support from within the community and among all you friends and Citizens of the Nation. 5. To let you know about upcoming events where Six String Nation books will be sold - including an event on August 15th at 7:00pm at the Revue Cinema on Roncesvalles with special performances by Donné Roberts and Dana Sipos. Book sales will be by neighbourhood heroes Another Story Bookshop. More details will be coming soon. 6. To generate some sales! Things are a little tough at the moment and if you can share your enthusiasm with your friends for this project, this story, this book and convince some people to hit that SHOP NOW button, it would really help. Stay tuned for more and thanks for the thumbs up!
