Update on York River. Low current at TNT water temp 54 degrees perfect paddling. South of Bancroft huge log jam 100 m carry to get around. 1 hour south of Egan Chutes Bridge. 1 hour north of Lavalle Rapids. Will have Little Missippi River update by end of weekend.

Seemingly when corona virus began to sweep the globe the best information is to lock down wash your hands and stay away from other people. That done and moving forward to re open the economy when the data suggests we are still in the throws of a pandemic would seem a bit eager, given the consequences. What could possibly go wrong ? Our response to Covid-19 is to STAY HEALTHY. "live life outside" Ride your bike, paddle a canoe or Kayak, go hiking or running. The best defense against most illness is to stay fit. Great for body, sole and mind. Trips and Trails Adventure Outfitting is open for the 31st. season and we are encouraging all to stay active. As this weekend draws closer the memories do also. The first hilly 100 saw 89 riders suffer and survive The Toughest Century Ride In Ontario. At that time I had created The Straight Jacket 240 km loop for those who got out of the nut house on a day pass or those who needed to be admitted. That route went to Foymount and returned on Letter Kenny road to route 66 and into Wilno then to Bancroft via Siberia Road. Totally crazy ride in one day. This weekend also marks the beginning of my late wife Christines battle with brain cancer. A battle she fought and lost. For those of you who ride the hilly and finish hats of to you. It’s not an easy ride. Now in it’s second decade the Hilly 100 will host 225 riders by the looks of registration. Thanks to all who continue to support this great event. The legacy continues

Great paddling forecast from Environment Canada leading into the Labour Day Weekend. The York River water level is low for this time of year at 6.99m with a discharge rate of .30m per second. The water temperature at Trips and Trails is 65 degrees. Wich means great paddling and swimming. The river is clear north of town with the exception of one fallen tree. South to Egan Chutes there is a larger blockage of fallen trees that you will have to carry around. From Egan Chutes to Boulter bridge the river is clear. Happy paddling this weekend.
