807 Mount Pearl Air Cadets 01.01.2021

Good Evening Everyone, In order to better deliver virtual training, we will be moving to the discord platform. We know that some cadets already use this program and other cadet units have had success with it. You can download discord here: https://discord.com/ Alternatively, you can access it via a web browser but it runs more smoothly when using the download. After you download it, make an account and message the Facebook group. We will provide you with an invite link so ...you can join our page. We understand that virtual training can be a challenge for some cadets, and they will not be penalized for absence. We do however encourage they attempt to log in and check it out. In addition to providing instruction this platform gives cadets an alternate way to connect with each other. This Sunday, we will have virtual training from 2-4 pm. We will start with an introduction to discord at 2 pm. Thanks for sticking with us though all this and we look forward to tentatively getting back to in-person training in February. Looking forward to Sunday, Capt. Tompkins *If any other cadet units would like some information on setting up their own unit discord to deliver training please let me know and we can help you out*

Wednesday January 6th 2021 Virtual Trivia Night with 3036. 7:00PM NL Time ... House Teams are Strongly Encouraged. Please come up with a team name, and we ask that the cadets are visible for attendance purposes for the first few minutes. There will be prizes for top scores from both Units. We recommend having decent speakers to hear stuff, especially the music stuff! A suggestion is to cast or connect your computers / devices to your TV to make it bigger and so you can hear better. Questions will be read out but there will also be a powerpoint slide shared on the screen. Lasts about an hour and 15 minutes, maybe a tiny bit longer. We will post the link tomorrow. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

As you may already know, the Canadian Cadet Organization strives to give back to our community through volunteerism and citizenship activities. We continuously encourage our Cadet’s at 807 Mount Pearl to give back to their communities and actively volunteer. This year, 807 will be partaking in our 5th Annual Thrive Citizenship Initiative. In years past during the Christmas season, the cadets and staff of 807 collected clothing and personal hygiene products to donate to Thirve.... Also, throughout the year we collected food items for the local food bank. This year things are different, we are unable to collect these items in person. We have decided to do a quick block fundraiser. We will be selling blocks for $10. The money raised will be divided 50/50 between the winner and both of these groups. If you are interested in purchasing a block please send your money to [email protected]. Be sure to included your name in the comments when sending the money. For ease of keeping track your name will be placed in a random block. Last day to purchase a block will be December 6. Any questions feel free to message our Facebook page. They provide outreach and follow-up support to its participants, and the program was developed around harm reduction. The cadets and staff of 807 RCACS wanted to participate in Remembering those who are serving and those that have sacrificed their lives to give us our freedom. It is weird knowing that we will not be participating in the Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Mount Pearl due to the current Pandemic, so we decided that we would have our own Remembrance Day Ceremony. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going dow...n of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we Forget! Although we cannot participate and show support in person, we encourage cadets to participate in a moment of silence at 1100hrs. Here are a few options to participate in Remembrance Day events virtually: City of Mount Pearl On Wednesday, November 11th, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36, will pay tribute to all those who fought to preserve the values that we hold so dear with a wreath laying ceremony. The ceremony will commence at 1030hrs. Although we are not able to attend the ceremony this year, it can be viewed on the City’s Facebook page, found here: City of Mount Pearl City of St. John’s The Legion and the City are encouraging citizens to observe 2 minutes of silence at 1100hrs outside their front doors for our veterans, our fallen soldiers and those who continue to serve. Good evening, We would like to give the cadets an opportunity to take a few minutes and share with us a picture, story or poem honoring a family member, friend or anyone that served for our wonderful country. Unfortunately, we aren't able to parade on the 11th so this would be a great way to show our respect to those who have given so much for our freedom.... You can post pictures, stories etc in the comments below. Lest we forget!

Virtual Paint Night For those cadets that expressed an interest in the virtual paint night tomorrow. The zoom meet will open 1845 (6:45 pm). Link will be posted/sent to you.... Please ensure that you are set up and ready to start as the piece will take a good bit of time to complete. Make sure that you are in a comfortable location with good lighting. Kitchen/dining room tables work really well. You should cover your table in case you get paint on it. It is acrylic paint so it may not wash out of fabrics so wear old clothes if you are worried about ruining them. List of items suggested: - Hairdryer (this will help speed the drying process up) - Paper towel - Water in containers to clean brushes - Easel - Art kits we provided - If you have your own paint brushes that you wish to use go for it. - Snacks I can't wait to paint with you tomorrow.
