As of today, Dec. 12, Nova Scotia has 61 active cases of COVID-19. Seven new cases are being reported today. Three cases are in Western Zone. Two are close cont...acts of previously reported cases. One is an employee of Eden Valley Poultry. This case was included in yesterday’s announcement of the plant closure related to the outbreak. A total of six employees have tested positive. All employees have been tested and are self-isolating until they can be retested this coming week. Two cases are in Eastern Zone and one case is in Northern Zone. All of these are related to travel outside of Atlantic Canada and are self-isolating as required. One case is in Central Zone and is a close contact of a previously reported case. I want to thank everyone at Eden Valley Poultry for working with Public Health in efforts to contain the virus. We know how quickly COVID-19 can spread. It is essential for all Nova Scotians to follow all the public health guidelines - isolate when required, wear a mask, practice social distancing, limit social contacts and travel, stay home when feeling unwell and wash your hands. In response to the outbreak at Eden Valley Poultry Inc., Public Health is encouraging anyone who lives in the communities nearest the plant to get tested (New Minas to Middleton). This is a precautionary measure; there is no evidence currently of community transmission. http://www.nshealth.ca//walk-testing-options-residents-ann Walk-in testing is available at two locations in Annapolis and Kings Counties. You may get tested if you:... -have no symptoms -are not a close contact of a person with COVID-19 -are not isolating because of travel outside of Atlantic Canada You do not need to isolate while you wait for your results. The testing method is standard PCR swab. Walk in locations Berwick Fire Hall 300 Commercial Street, Berwick NS Note: Please enter through the front door Sunday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (site will be closed between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.) Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (site will be closed between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.) Dates may be extended. Mobile Unit at the Middleton Fire Hall 131 Commercial Street, Middleton Monday, Dec. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please bring your health card with you. Standard (PCR) testing for those without symptoms is also available at Acadia University in Wolfville by appointment. You can schedule an appointment by completing a COVID-19 Self-assessment (choose the asymptomatic option). Please remember: Visit covid-self-assessment.novascotia.ca/ to do a self-assessment if in the past 48 hours you have had or you are currently experiencing: fever or cough (new or worsening) OR two or more of the following symptoms (new or worsening): sore throat runny nose headache shortness of breath Currently, anyone travelling to Nova Scotia from outside of the Atlantic Provinces is expected to self-isolate alone for 14 days after arriving. If a person travelling for non-essential reasons enters Nova Scotia from outside Atlantic Canada, then everyone in the home where they are self-isolating will have to self-isolate as well. All Nova Scotians are advised to continue monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms and are urged to follow Public Health guidelines on how to access care. Up to date information about COVID-19 is available at novascotia.ca/coronavirus

Alex: I found a bunch of these beauties in the backyard Friday morning. Brought back a lot of memories of getting beaned with these in gym class. Do you remember these red, white and blue mini-cannon balls?

Mel: UPDATE: The company has reversed its decision. ---------------------------------- Let's face it, this was a bonehead move by this chain. And, MPs agree with us. They passed a unanimous motion today calling on all Canadian employers to allow their employees to wear poppies during Veterans Week and the Federal government has been in touch with Whole Foods to voice their concerns.
