Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, or PNF for short, is yet another type of stretching! This type of stretching utilizes the proprioceptors (nerves) located in your muscles and joints to help relax the muscle of interest in order to try to achieve a deeper stretch. To practice PNF, first you have to contract the muscle you are looking to stretch and hold for approximately 6 seconds, followed by stretching the same muscle and holding the stretch for between 15-30 sec...onds. By following this contract-relax sequence, you may notice you are able to achieve a deeper stretch.
