Was pretty sure that Ruby was pregnant a number of months ago, but when the vet was out to fix Max we did a quick US and didn’t see anything. So I have assumed since sept 15th that Ruby was just eating well.... until Thursday when she started to show udder.... this morning all doubt is removed! We have a baby donkey!!

Have found a few chickens that had been killed, but carcasses left behind. Raccoons will do that sometimes, but the distribution of feathers also more widespread than usual. But I think I found the culprit looking for more!

For the first time Sunday afternoon one of my sows decided to bite me. Nothing serious, didn’t even break skin on back of leg but it sure made me rethink some assumptions. Can’t think of anything I did that would have provoked her. It’s been months since most of babies left. Once I realized she was pissed, it was easy enough to deal with but now we will never be friends!! The key attribute in my breeding program is temperament!! I never did register her, and her sister in the same pen remains a gem. The clip is just for folks to recognize the aggressive posturing of a pig....I hate to tease in this clip but it really was just my hand, and she would have gladly bitten it off if she could. She reacts to me now as she remembers the punch on the nose the other day!!

Spent some time today taking pics of the pigs so I can enter the virtual show sponsored by Heritage Livestock Canada!!

Added a nice group of young Katahdin ewe lambs to the flock. Thanks Chris Dancey. I picked ten, but the consistent conformality of the group available was pretty impressive. Can’t decide whether to keep them pure or breed with my Wiltshire horn ram....but I have lots of time to decide. Maybe lambs for next fall.
