The last OMREB directors meeting took place today as the merger with the South Okanagan Real Estate board means the first meeting of 2021 will be of the new "Association of Interior Realtors. Blake is honoured to be part of the final OMREB board and part of the new association. This is Blake’s first year as a member of the board of directors and he would like to salute all the long standing directors, both past & present who have helped shape organized real estate in the Okanagan.

Effective November 30, 2020, there will be a new British Columbia Land Registry in place called the Land Owner Transparency Registry (LOTR). All corporations, partnerships and trusts who own land in British Columbia will have to file a Transparency Report with this new registry by November 30, 2021. This LOTR will be a publicly searchable registry that will show information about the human beings behind corporations, partnerships and trusts who own an interest in land.... For any corporations, partnerships or trusts that are Existing Land Owners, they have until November 30, 2021 to file the 23 page Disclosure Report. As of today the Land Owner Transparency Act requires a transparency declaration to be filed regarding everyone with an interest in a property prior to closing. This will be executed by the lawyer or notary before closing on a property creating one more step at closing for the conventional purchase. When purchasing property in a company name there will be more documentation that will need to be provided to your lawyer or notary. Therefore, going forward, if you’re purchasing a property in a company name it is important to involve your lawyer or a notary at the start of the process to make sure there are no delays upon closing.
