For some of us, it has almost been a full year of staying home and keeping away to avoid Covid-19. The pandemic has hit us all in so many different ways. It has changed our daily lives and our relationships with others.... For some of us, our children too have had to adapt to the new way of life. This could have resulted in too much screen time, lack of physical activity, and a decline in their mental health. So, many of us want ways to lift our spirits and bring along our family too. Exercise can be a crucial method of coping with the stress and anxiety that people of all ages experience under quarantine and so we wanted to share some simple ways to stay active with your family during this time. -> It’s easy to get distracted by our screens, whether it is TV, tablets or phone. But having too much time in front of a screen can be detrimental to you and your family. A great way to keep the screens off is by creating some fun challenges that encourage activity. For example, you can challenge your family to see who can do the most push-ups or jumping jacks during commercial breaks. You can go for a run outside and see who can run the farthest without stopping or the fastest etc. Setting challenges throughout the day can break up the amount of time on screen you and your family are exposed to. - Our gym is closed, but you can still find a way to move your body and have the whole family take part. Look around your community for online sports, dance, gymnastic etc. programs. This can be done from the safety of your home and allow your children to participate in community sports etc. while feeling a part of a community. Equally, our online workouts are designed to be done anywhere, as they don’t require any fancy equipment, so you can do them from your bedroom or even in your backyard (weather permitting) and the kid’s can join in! Have your whole family take part in the fun and make exercise a priority for their physical and mental health. We encourage you to find safe ways to keep your family active during this time. Our at-home workouts are a great option for families looking to start a new fitness routine, so contact us today to find out more! https://www.9round.ca//etobicoke/checkout/9roundnow-only-4 See more

What is one of the main reasons people quit their fitness journey? ACCOUNTABILITY! When we have no accountability we don’t feel the need to make fitness a priority. ... We are only disappointing ourselves and we can easily accept our own excuses and move on. What keeps us going is having someone there waiting for us. Having someone to message or call when we need support. Having someone push us on the days we want to sit on the couch and do nothing. Accountability is a motivator It keeps us feeling like we can’t disappoint someone. We don’t want to let them down. If you feel like you need an extra push to get you moving Find an accountability partner. Someone who will call and get you up and moving? This could be a fellow 9Round member or A friend or family member who you can lean on when you need that push. Whoever it is Having someone to be accountable to can really motivate you and keep you on track to meeting your goals. See more

Ahhh, the big debate - to work out in the morning or in the evening? So, which is better? ... Morning or evening workouts? There are pro's and con's to both and it really does just depend on you, your body and your lifestyle. I know that’s obvious, but it really depends on you as a whole. Are you the kind of person that by the end of the day you have not even an ounce of energy left? Or are you that kind of person that waking up earlier than you need to will cause you to be tired and grumpy all day? There are different benefits to working out at certain times of the day for certain people. For example, if you're exercising in the morning and feel like you're lacking energy this may be because you haven't consumed enough calories in the morning before your workout. So, working out later in the day may actually suit you best. Or, maybe you exercise at night and then have difficulty sleeping because your endorphins are screaming! If this is the case it could be worth exercising earlier and seeing if this positively impacts your sleeping pattern. It’s really hard to tell you the best time to exercise because also it depends on lifestyle. Are you a parent to young children who wake up multiple times at night and sleeping in might help you feel better? Are you a night shift worker who cannot work out at night because you need to be at work? Whatever the situation is, do what is best for you, your family and your work. The important thing is to make sure to fit in exercise at least 3 times a week to keep healthy. See more
