Building trust with your dog is one of the most important aspects of the relationship with your animal. To make your dog do what you want him / her to do, you need to build your dog's trust in you first. Building trust with your dog should start at the first moment you meet. You need to be constantly providing a feeling of security to him / her. Aside from that, you should make every interaction with your dog a pleasant one. Never hurt your dog, since that could make your pet lose their trust in you, and possibly be on defensive mode. That is never good. Only a start to other future problems. - JM

Do not forget about your dog's health: Before training your dog, you have to make sure that he / she is in top condition. This is because, a dog that is not feeling 100% would not have the focus that you want him to have. He should be a happy healthy dog to begin with, which is why you should make sure that he eats nutritious foods, and he should be taken to a veterinarian for his regular checkups. -JM

Put on your walking shoes folks! Daily walks with your dog can help strengthen the bond between your dog and his new family. A dog should be walked at least once a day (some more than others). Exercise can help relieve stress, burn off excess energy and create an all-around happier dog. Remember: A tired dog is a HAPPY dog." -JM
