A1 Security Crime of the Week Over the weekend of August 23rd to 25th the Sarnia Police Service responded to approximately seven calls for service involving dam...age to cars parked in the 1200 block of Sandy Lane Apartments parking lots. This area is located just outside the west entrance to Canatara Park It appears that some of the damage includes broken car windows and scratched vehicles. Also, some vehicles had been entered. Home Safety Tips Your home is the only environment where you have control over who can get close to your family. Securing your home and family from criminal intrusion should be high on your list of priorities. Without a doubt, the most common threat to your home is... burglary. The majority of home burglaries occur during the daytime when most people are away from home. They also may occur at night when there are obvious signs that no one is home. Use the following basic home security tips to keep you and your family safe. DOORS AND LOCKS Always lock your doors and windows. Locks on doors should be placed at least 40 inches away from windows, glass panels and other openings. Place a metal bar or wooden stick in the track of each sliding door. Use a solid core (44mm thick) or metal door for all entrance points. Use a quality, heavy-duty, deadbolt lock with a one-inch throw bolt. Check door hinges to make sure they are sturdy and secure with strong, long screws. Display A1 Security Systems decals in a visible location on all doors and windows, along with a A-1 Security Lawn Sign . WINDOWS Make sure valuables are where they cannot be seen from a window. Secure all accessible windows with secondary blocking devices. Block accessible windows open no more than 6 inches for ventilation. Consider fitting security grilles to vulnerable windows. LIGHTING Use timer switches to turn on lights, radios and other devices when youre away from home. Make sure exterior lighting allows 100-foot visibility. Use good lighting along the pathway and at your door. Consider infrared motion sensors on the exterior porch or side door. ALARMS Put the Power of A-1 to work for you by installing a professional A-1 Security System that suits your budget and needs. Make sure your home or business is monitored by a A-1 Security ULC Listed monitoring stations for FAST Alarm Detection. All systems need to have an audible siren to be effective. Keep your alarm call list up to date. Make sure all keyholders know how to respond to an alarm call. Dont display your passcode near the alarm panel. OTHER TIPS Trim the bushes and trees close to your home to make it difficult for a burglar to hide. Store any ladders and tools in a locked tool shed, garage or basement. Do not display your familys name on mailboxes or doormats. Do an inventory of all the belongings inside your home. Make a video of your belongings and store a copy in a safe place - outside your home. Make sure your house number is easily visible from the street so emergency vehicles can quickly find your house.
