Happy Valentine's Day! We hope you're enjoying it with the ones you love!
Good news about rabies cases in Ontario! But it’s still important to make sure your pets are vaccinated against the disease (plus, it’s Ontario law that all owners must vaccinate their pets against rabies).
Check out what one of our members came up with to promote adoptions and raise money! Way to think out of the box! If your agency has some fun and exciting news to share, please let us know!
For those of us that respond to wildlife calls, check out this online education module created in partnership with the City of Toronto.
This video is from an Animal Services Agency in the U.S but we thought everyone here could relate. Enjoy!
The Ontario government has established an advisory table to further improve animal welfare across the province. The advisory table will help develop regulations under the Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) Act. The AASAO is pleased to have been asked to participate in this important initiative.
These researchers would appreciate your time completing their survey!
Our next members-only call will be on November 12 covering WSIB from an employer’s perspective. Email [email protected] to register.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving everyone!
AASAO has a new website! It's not only been redesigned but also moved to a new domain, so be sure to update your bookmarks! You can also renew your membership through the new site, so if you haven't renewed yet this is a perfect time to check it out!
Happy Halloween everyone!
This little guy is KILLING it with his Halloween costume! But remember, not all pets are into the whole costume thing. If they seem distressed or show abnormal behaviour, consider letting your pet wear their birthday suit or don a festive bandana instead.

A new study by Royal Canin has pet professionals pulling their hair. Although this study was done in the UK, a lot of our very own cat parents fall into this trap. Make sure your followers know that routine veterinary care is critical for keeping their cats healthy.
Some thought provoking content for this long weekend. While AASAO decided to cancel this year's conference, we recognize the networking that in-person conferences facilitate and are looking forward to meeting again in person in October 2021!
Lockdown stress doesn’t just impact people!
Our second members only zoom call is here! On Thursday June 25 at 2pm you can learn about the top 5 (or so!) wildlife issues happening in your community right now! And how to develop and maintain strong working relationships with your wildlife rehab partners. Our presenter Chantal Theijn is the founder and Authorized Wildlife Custodian at Hobbitstee Wildlife Refuge in Jarvis, Ontario. If you are interested in attending this call please email [email protected] to register.

Animal welfare as an industry has a lot of work to do regarding equity. For years, rescue animal ownership was set up only for affluent people. How many times have you heard or maybe even said if they can’t afford a pet, they shouldn’t have it? Our industry has historically put parameters on your worthiness for owning a pet. Those parameters unjustly disqualify a lot of people in our community... renters, no fence, solid work history, transportation, vet history (and the list goes on and on). How we can work harder in animal welfare toward an equitable society?
Urgent action needed! Please take a moment to make your voice heard on ag-gag.
There have been a lot of adjustments to the sheltering world since COVID became part of our lives, and some of those are actually positive. Leaving healthy stray cats where they are, and working to keep animals in homes rather than automatically defaulting to sheltering them are now common, but not always welcomed by our communities (or even internal stakeholders)! We will be hearing from Lisa LaFontaine, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Humane Rescue Alliance about these challenges, and giving members an opportunity to share our experiences and ideas from Ontario. Join our next members-only zoom meeting on Thursday, July 30 at 2pm. To register, please email [email protected].
A great opportunity for a leader in animal welfare in Ontario! The Hamilton Burlington SPCA is seeking a President & Chief Executive Officer. https://crawfordconnect.com/for-candidates/job-openings/
