Today's view shows the only inscription in the stonework which reads 'Wine is strong. The king is stronger. Women are stronger still: but truth conquers all'.
The Valley of Halifax is in sorrow today as we mourn the passing of Ill. Bro. J. H. Vernon Toole, 33. Vern was a loyal and faithful member of the Valley and our heartfelt condolences are sent to Lady Peggy and family.
Bro. Knights: The importance of Maundy Thursday and Easter Ceremonies has been part of the Rose Croix for more than 200 years. We know this to be true because of an ordinance concerning these ceremonies that was enacted in 1762: "The principal feast of the chapter is the Thursday before Easter. No reason whatsoever will excuse a failure to hold a Chapter on that day; and, if the place where one lives, there be no other Knights, he must perform the ceremony alone, and unite h...is spirit with his brethren, who in the same day, will remember him. If one is on a journey, still he can, and ever ought to, perform his duty." With the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the Keith Sovereign Chapter will not be able to hold its Maundy Thursday or Easter Ceremony. But let us as Knights of the Chapter uphold our duty and this sacred tradition. I urge every member of the Chapter on Maundy Thursday, as close to 8:00 p.m. as possible to light a candle and share some wine and unleavened bread in your own home virtually with your Brother Knights. After you have partaken please say a prayer for those who have given their lives for others, including those brave health care workers who are now on the front lines of battle. You can then extinguish your candle and re-light it on Easter Sunday. Share with me on this Holy Thursday and Easter Sunday and stay safe my Brother Knights. N. From The Sovereign Grand Commander RE: COVID-19 Update Brethren,... Further to my communication of March 12 and the ever evolving nature of the COVID-19 spread within Canada, after much consideration I deem it necessary to cancel all Scottish Rite Meetings, Activities, and Events (other than by teleconference) within Canada for an indefinite period of time effective immediately. Please advise your members that no Scottish Rite Meeting, Activity, or Event (other than by teleconference) is to take place until further notice. I realise and appreciate that this disruption may cause difficulties; however, out of an abundance of caution this appears to be the most appropriate step to take for the safety and well-being of our members. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as appropriate. Once again I remind you to pay particular attention to those of our brethren and widows who may be in distress and in need of assistance. Fraternally, Ill. Bro. Robert S. Whitmore, 33 Sovereign Grand Commander
