Some more deserving press for AHPS student Ryker! After a particularly bad windstorm this past January, Ryker used his drone to check his parents' roof for damage. His uncle's friend then offered him five dollars to do the same. Ryker saw an opportunity. With his mom's help, Ryker posted the offer in community groups on Facebook asking for donations in return for a drone inspection. Half of his money went toward paying his parents back for the drone, while the other half of t...he money went to Kelowna's Gospel Mission. "The month after Christmas it's a bit harder for them to get donations because people stop thinking about them," says Ryker. "And it's getting colder and there's a global pandemic, so it's a bit harder to find things that you need."

To say it’s been a year like no other would be an understatement. As the New Year approaches we’re taking stock of the school year so far, and guess what? We didn’t just survive - we thrived! That’s not to say there hasn’t been pain, frustration or disappointment. This year has been hard in many ways, for many people. But we are so grateful for the resilience and innovation of our faculty, staff, students and families. We are grateful for our community members who rally arou...nd us when we are feeling the weight of the last year. School has provided, for the most part, some normalcy in all our lives, and that is something to hold on to. Thank you everyone for the role you played in making the year so far, so special. Our Grade 3 students didn’t let any pandemic related restrictions stop them from participating in one of the school’s much loved holiday traditions, The Grade 3 Winter Market. Every year, students get together with a group of their peers and work diligently to produce handmade artisanal products for the holiday season which they sell at the fair, raising funds for a local charity. This year, they took their products online. The students created a website that featured the products and pricing information, and filmed commercials to promote the event. Our Kindergarten classes will be running an outreach program for our local community this Halloween! Between October 26-30, we will be collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank. Please send in your donations with your child to their homeroom classroom. The grade cohort with the most donated items will earn themselves a free outdoor or indoor play block. Let’s aim for 100% participation - every item helps! According to the food... bank, most needed items include Boost, canned fish/meats (e.g. tuna, ham, turkey), canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned or dry soups, mac & cheese, meals in a can (e.g. chilli or stews), pasta sauces, pasta/rice, baby basics formula, baby food, diapers and wipes. This year marks 40 years since Terry Fox embarked on his Marathon of Hope to raise money and awareness for cancer research. This week we're challenging our Grade 6-12 students to do something that honors Terry's best qualities: perseverance, resilience, and determination. It doesn't have to be a run. It can be a difficult hike you've always wanted to tackle or a long walk around our beautiful waterfront. As always, we'd love to see what you're doing to take part in this challenge.
