2018 Aberfoyle A’s Schedule

Aberfoyle A’s 04.03.2020

At a press conference this afternoon, the Aberfoyle Duke’s announced that rumours of new uniforms and a name change were indeed true. The Aberfoyle A’s will boast Oakland Athletic style fashion in 2018; a change that was long overdue according to player-manager Norm Drumstick Laffin. The letter A really strikes a chord with me said an energetic Mike Thistle.... you don’t want to be the B’s and you don’t want to be a C... although my ex and her cynical friends were definitely C’s said the Umpire only known as Taco. The old uni’s just didn’t capture the spirit of the team he commented from the A’s spring training facility in Puslinch. If you want tight defence, you have to look tight; tight like a tiger, a tiger on D, Raaaawwwww said ex-Duke Billy Beedle - who was incidentally arrested shortly afterwards for flashing his boobs at a charity concert It signifies a new beginning said team veteran Keith the technician Sewell I give the new look at A+! Commented long time league veteran Ronny A Matt Peterson, in money ball fashion, had this to say: the dynamic nature of a sport like baseball requires a blend of science and heart. We’ve reengineered the lineup based on RUIS .. a new statistic which stands for ARE YOU IN SHAPE On that note, we caught up with Brian Pressman who has taken the off season seriously and looks better than ever. I have taken it upon myself to list the 10 most impactful foods in no particular order he commented; and continued to explain a strict regiment of protein and a carb measuring process that’s not appropriate for print. Third baseman Mike O’Grady was unavailable for comment, but the team masseuse Tara O says he has a long, hard road ahead if he is to be 100% for opening day. The A’s continue their workouts this Thursday and look forward to outdoor practices very soon... if they can remember to register the team for the 2018 season.

Aberfoyle A’s 11.02.2020

Spring training starts for the Duke’s tonight at Puslinch Community Centre.. @8pm. The Duke’s have been shaving off pounds and sharpening their skills individually for months now. We’re stronger than ever before said second baseman Brian Pressman... The Venezuela League was interesting.. there was a lot of raw talent that pushed me to be my best commented Dan G. A new team may be added to the FOFL in 2018 and GM’s have recently met to discuss rules, policies and other league matters. Team fee’s will be communicated shortly, and the deadline for payment will be May 1st... so return those empties and clean your vehicle.

Finishing 6th in 2016, the Duke's 5th place finish is an improvement that suggests more good things to come. Outfielder Keith Sewell added his perspective; saying "It was mentally difficult to lose third basemen Mike O'Grady for the season. His presence in the Locker room and on the field had been key to success in years past. However, not unlike the wild world of aviation mechanics, the team is deeper than any one individual. We're confident that we have the talent to succeed" Team Capitan Norm Laffin said "We can beat anyone in this league when we play our A game. The next step for us is to improve our record vs the top 4 teams in the league, as the majority of our wins are vs teams lower in the standings. Simply put- to be the best, we have to beat the best!" Catcher Matt Peterson has a positive outlook for the playoffs on Sept 9th weekend - stating "The championship is our goal. The FOFL Tournament of champions has a rich history of teams overcoming adversity" 2nd Basemen Brian Pressman commented " Its not always smooth sailing. Sometimes it's bumpy - like a sleigh ride or interstellar turbulence. The question is do we have what it takes? And the answer is a resounding yes" The Duke's face undefeated Copetown Thursday night. The Duke's ended their season on a high note, beating St.George 10-5 last night at Aberfoyle Stadium. The Duke's end their inaugural season in the FOFL with a record of 14-1-9 - good enough for 6th place (6/13). Ron A. And Brian P. Held the St. George offence at bay, while the Duke's offence got on the board early and kept the pressure on for the full game.... This weekend is playoff weekend for the FOFL and the host team is Puslinch. This means that the primary diamond for the event is Aberfoyle Stadium. In fact, all Duke's games will be played on their home field. The Duke's are in action Friday @ 6:30 vs the 4-1-18 team from Morriston. The winner will play Puslinch at noon on Saturday. If the Duke's win at noon, they play at 5pm in the semi-final; the championship game is scheduled for 8pm. The Duke's were in action last night in Freelton for their second last game of the regular season. Freelton and the Duke's were neck and neck in the regular season standings; the winner of this game will finish 5th, while the looser 6th. The Duke's had already beaten Freelton earlier in the year at home, but we're not successful last night on the road as they fell 10-8 to a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 7th. The Duke's are in action tonight at Aberfoyle Stadium ( Pu...slinch Community Centre in your GPS) vs St. George. Although the game doesn't have an impact on regular season standings, a win would send the Duke's to the playoffs with some great momentum. www.fofl.ca for full league standings

The Duke's were in action last night in Lynden for a "must win" vs the 6-16 squad. Despite thunderstorms in the neighbouring cities, the baseball gods parted the clouds in Lynden and the Duke's came away with a 15-2 victory. The aging Lynden team scored a few early to take the lead, but the Duke's put their offence in high gear and never looked back. Defence was strong; the Duke's turned 4 double plays - a new franchise record.... The Duke's did suffer some small injuries as Catcher Cam Tuck crashed through the dug-out gate in a spider man like pursuit of a foul ball.... SS Bryce strained a calf muscle while making a leaping catch.... And starting pitcher Ron A. Was harassed by an unruly fan after an embarrassing K by Lynden's 79 year old pitcher. The Duke's move to 13-1-7 after the victory and still have three games to play before playoffs begin in a weeks time. Currently in 6th place, the Duke's will need three wins to overtake 5th place Freelton... The Duke's are in action: Sunday @ Morrison (hopefully) Monday @ Freelton Tuesday vs St. George at Aberfoyle Stadium Full standings at www.fofl.ca

Well, after a rained out game vs Freelton, the Duke's hosted the revenge seeking team from Galt on Sunday at Aberfoyle Stadium. The Duke's beat up on Galt earlier in the season and got a taste of their own medicine Sunday night. The Duke's defence was to blame in an uncharacteristic display that resembled a pin ball machine. However, the Duke's were back in action tonight with a chance to right the wrongs of yesterday vs Puslinch; and that they did.... Norm Laffin got the win, pitching a complete game and surrendering only 8 runs to the Puslinch offence. The Duke's had a number of strong offensive performances and ultimately were victorious 13-8 in a heated contest. The Duke's are 12-1-6 in regular season play with 4 games remaining.

After 2 tough losses to Westover and St. George, the Duke's were back to their winning ways tonight at Aberfoyle Stadium. The team from Greensville would not quit, and it took a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th to seal the victory for the Duke's. The Duke's are now 11-1-5 in regular season play.... The Duke's are in action on Thursday night vs the 12-6 team from Freelton.

The Aberfoyle Duke's defeated Oxford tonight in a closer than expected 10-5 victory. This expected win improves the Duke's record to 10-1-3. We caught up with Clean-up hitter Mike "The Hammer" O'Grady for some post game comments:... "Each win puts us closer to our goal of a league championship. Tonight our pitching stepped up and did their job." O'Grady was referring to Cam J. O. Tuck who pitched 4 strong innings; giving way in the 5th to closer Norm Laffin who held the Oxford offence at bay. Catcher / second baseman Brian Pressman hit a towering 2 run home run that deflated the hopeful Oxford squad in the bottom of the sixth inning and put the game out of reach. On a serious note, the Dukes were left with only 9 players after Al (insert last name here) removed himself from the game to attend to a personal situation. Al's fans are hoping all is well and that he will be in the lineup Sunday vs the undefeated 17-0 Copetown team. Sunday is the 2nd hibachi festival of the season. Team ownership has increased the budget and there are rumours of ketchup being available. Pre-game BP starts at 7pm on Sunday.

On Sunday the Duke's fell 6-1 vs Puslinch; moving the Duke's to 9-1-3 in regular season play. Giving credit where credit is due, veteran and ex-teammate Cameron John Osborne Tuck was quoted after the game with many compliments to the infamous Puslinch starting pitcher Mookie... who pitched 7 great innings of 1 run ball; stifling the powerful Duke bats. On the other side of the ball, the Duke's pitching from Ron A. and Norm L. was strong, limiting Puslinch (the league leader i...n runs scored) to only 6 runs through 7 innings. The Duke's are in action tonight at Aberfoyle Stadium vs the bottom dwelling team from Oxford. This is a make-up game from earlier in the season. The Duke's are in 5th place (based on points), but have only played 13 games - while some teams ahead of them in the standings have played 15 or even 17. Based on winning % the Duke's are in 4th place. Full standings and schedule at www.fofl.ca

Big win for the Duke's in Oxford Tuesday night! This 19-4 victory improves the Duke's run differential to +105 runs ... Second only to the team that shares Aberfoyle stadium; Puslinch. The frustrated team from Oxford could not deal with the strong pitching and solid defence of the Duke's. Ron Aubin pitched 4 scoreless relief innings to insure the Duke's did not forfeit their heavy lead. Reggie Kudsia led-off the game with a scorching triple that set the tone for a powerful of...fensive performance from every spot in the order. The Dukes are now 9-1-2 at the 1/2 way point of the season and have a 12 day break before a crucial game on Sunday, August 7th vs. Puslinch at Aberfoyle Stadium - 8:30 start. 5 teams have broken away from the pack and have at least 9 victories. Puslinch is one of those teams at 11-2. With games still to play vs Galt, Copetown, Westover and two vs Puslinch, 1st place is still very much in reach. Full standings at www.fofl.ca

After letting up 6 runs in the top of the 1st inning, Pitcher Norm Laffin settled in and pitched 4 consecutive scoreless innings. Brian Pressman made his 1st professional appearance on the mound; pitching a scoreless 6th before the game was called. The Honda player of the game was Ron Aubin who's towering homerun to center field nearly knocked over the community centre building, and was the Duke's 1st homerun of the season. The post game hibachi was a success and may become a home game tradition. The Duke's take on a struggling team from Oxford on Tuesday night in Innerkip. Be there!
