Well there is no real surprise on this morning's rate announcement. The Bank of Canada announced earlier this morning that they are holding the overnight lending rate steady at 0.25% citing economic uncertainty and a bumpy road to recovery as reasons The central bank also announced it would continue its quantitative easing program by buying $4 billion of bonds per week.... Both moves are designed to drive down interest rates on things like mortgages and business loans stimulate spending and ease debt loads. What this means for borrowers is that you can expect rates to stay relatively low for now. Most economists are predicting that the rate discount will carry us into 2023. The next update by the central bank will happen in January. It'll be an interesting time as we'll likely have early data available on the vaccination roll out and how this is affecting the number of COVID-19 cases both domestically and abroad.
