Indian classical dances are about understanding the mind-body-soul connection. While staying in specific dance postures, the ‘monkey-mind’ which wants to keep moving to the ‘next’ thing, is forced to stay with one posture. When you practice these dance forms, you are basically training your mind to focus on one thing for extended periods of time. This shall always keep you in the present and aware of the present moment. http://www.thebrowndesi.com//nine-reasons-to-learn-indian/

Praising the lord of dance, Nataraja. Composed by Adi Shankara in praise of Shiva.
A composition by Nazrul Islam, a Bangladeshi poet. In this, the dancer requests Lord Nataraja to forget his angry destructive side and show his playful, loving side.
In Raag Yaman Kalyan, the dancer praises lord Rama, for his various attributes- his grit, valor, and compassion. She recognizes that in surrendering to him, she can rid herself of all sorrows, as can the Rasika, through her.
