October is #InternationalAACMonth Here is a story of why AAC is important: An Ability4Good Speech-Language Pathologist had worked with a child who used the Touchchat app on his iPad to augment his speech. While the boy was at his favourite restaurant, he was able to use his device to ask the server for a to-go container. This is something his parents would have done for him in the past. ... The server was patient and waited for him to complete his message. The server responded positively and brought the container back right away! This boy was visibly proud of himself for having communicated independently with an unfamiliar person! With the power of communication, AAC allows individuals to enjoy full and productive lives, communicating spontaneously wherever and whenever they want. #EveryVoiceMatters To learn more - Please see the attached resource on 10 Things You May Not Know About AAC. Ability4Good has Speech-Language Pathologists based in both Calgary and Edmonton - to learn more about our services please check out our website: https://www.ability4good.com/intervention_services #ISAAC #speechtherapy #aacawarenessmonth #speechandlanguage #aacaware20

October is Occupational Therapy (OT) Month!! Occupational therapists are healthcare professionals that focus on maximizing individuals' independence in their day-to-day activities. Occupational therapists at Ability4Good work with families and their children using a play-based approach to help them increase participation and independence in the activities that are important to them. Some of the things OTs may work on with your child are mealtime routines, self-help skills, ...sensory processing, and regulation, to name a few! #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapymonth #occupationaltherapyforkids
