As usual, we're up against some really, really tough competition this year. Honoured just to be nominated.

Reposting an article we wrote for our local chamber of commerce on how to pick a good password. Choose a Good Password These days, passwords are the first line of defence in protecting our digital lives. As hackers get more sophisticated, websites are demanding that we use longer, more complex passwords. We're at the point where most people have to write their passwords down somewhere. This article is loaded with search industry jargon, so here's the quick summary: If you're depending on Google local search results and don't have a website, you're at the mercy of features that Google ads to generate revenue, none of which are good for your business, unless you're paying for ads. You're far better off with a good site that backs up the Google local listing. https://moz.com/blog/local-businesses-need-websites
sometimes, we even help our customers with their Facebook pages.
Love this: we get a phishing email. Link in the email uses an open redirect at a hosting company that claims "advanced security" as one of their features. It seems unlikely that they were hacked, since hacker redirects are rarely at the root of a site and named "redirect.php", so they probably put it there with no regard to the possible abuses. Security is more than just installing a bunch of tools and assuming everything is okay.
This is disgusting. Criminal. Props to WordFence for the footwork https://www.wordfence.com//2017/12/backdoor-captcha-plugin/ We've blocked the IP address globally.

The only thing worse than having to ask a customer to power their device off an on again is having the power cycle fix the problem.
Another advantage of deep backups: fraud reporting. You may have cleaned up before you were discovered, but the evidence hasn't gone away.
Customer: Help! Our site broke on an update and all we have is an old backup! Us: That's okay, we have you covered.
Just released SuperTable v 2.0.5. This fixes broken JavaScript that accidentally got built into 2.0.4. Please update.
