Healthy, delicious and sustainably made meals start with the origin of each ingredient. @mitchscatch is deeply rooted in community, a proud partner of the Oceanwise Seafood Program and offers premium product by minimizing their impact on the ocean and maximizing their impact in our community. These absolutely righteous casseroles were made with tuna generously donated by @mitchscatch. In addition to our regularly scheduled 1,000 #DailyMeals, an extra 126 portions of Tuna Casserole made with recovered oven dried tomatoes, mushrooms, peas and topped with arugula were delivered to recipients throughout the DTES. Thank you @mitchescatch, and thank you to our wonderful family of supporters for enabling us to continue feeding more people quality meals.

Candy hearts, chocolates, cards and flowers are some of the Valentine's Day classics! Whether you ch-ch-ch-choooose to celebrate the sweetheart holiday of the year (or not), chances are, many of us get that choice. Last year, we hosted an in-person, sit down event for residents of the DTES to come & enjoy a special 3-course Valentine's Day meal. We wanted to give folks who might not otherwise have the means to honour a special relationship the opportunity to celebrate with a... loved one or friend. While we can't do the same this year, we are still offering a way to send a Valentine's gift with purpose. These abundant, fresh and tasty salads accompanied warm dishes of veggie Mac & Cheese with extra curds. Ingredients for this food including blackberries, cherry tomatoes, cucumber & Paive cheese came to our kitchen through our Food Recovery Program. Instead of heading for the landfill, we were able to redirect it to 136 extra plates in addition to those regularly scheduled for the #DailyMealProgram. #FoodRecovery is at the heart of our focus for 2021, stick with us! We execute the #DailyMealProgram 365 days a year (and we're grateful for it). No matter what, we're in the kitchen making food for the community and it gets pretty festive sometimes! Here's the team on Christmas Day making approximately 1,000 traditional turkey dinners with all the fixins' including cranberry sauce and stuffing. We have fun and celebrate a lot of holidays here together in our own way and hope the food we serve helps the humans we care about do the same. When everyday is a struggle for survival, feeling festive isn't a priority. By showing up and honouring the days that mean different, maybe special things to the folks we feed, we hope to spread a little extra love.

As of this long weekend, highlighted by family, friends and a time to reflect on the things we are most grateful for, we are just a hair away from raising enough funds to double the impact of our Food Waste Recovery programming by onboarding a 2nd grocery store. This programming has been incredibly rewarding and better yet - successful! Diverting perfectly edible, but unsellable food from a local grocery store to the plates of people that can really use it has saved nearly 5 ...metric tonnes of food from being dumped into the landfill and nearly 10,000 metric tonnes of C02 emissions from entering the atmosphere. It has also been a great support to our #DailyMealProgram that provides 1,000 meals like this turkey loaf, cranberry ketchup, tarragon honey butter braised veggies and mashed potato dish we served to folks in need today. Our take on Chicken a la Queen went to our most vulnerable communities here in Vancouver’s DTES x 1,000 this week as part of our #DailyMealProgram. Our daily meals are made by the rockstar kitchen team in the Save On Meats production kitchen. They are then doorstep-delivered to our partners throughout the DTES by 0-emissions bicycle courier service Shift Delivery and distributed to our neighbours in need. #beinghungrysucks

Waste Not, Want Not! We’re distributing delicious, nutritious locally made food items like Chef & Garden Salads as part of our Food Waste Recovery programming. To sustain and double our impact for the rest of 2020, we need to raise a minimum of $20,000. $20,000 = 11,646kgs of food diverted from the landfill... $20,000 = the equivalent of 19,413 meals for our neighbourhood including the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, Vancouver Women’s Health Collective and Youth Unlimited $20,000 = 22,131kgs of CO2 saved from being emitted into the atmosphere This environmental initiative prioritizes precariously housed women and street-entrenched youth in need and we’re determined to continue the work, but we need to cover some ground in the next week. To support our work in food security and the #DailyMealProgram, we partnered with FoodMesh and Urban Fare in June of this year to launch our Food Waste Recovery Program. This initiative diverts perfectly delicious food that would have otherwise ended up in the landfill. In just 2.5 months time, we’ve diverted 3,667kg and used food items like fine cheese, whole chickens, artisan breads and more to provide the equivalent of 6,033 extra meals to our neighbours in need. Better s...till, our food waste recovery has saved 6,967 tons of CO2 emissions. We’re very proud to say the Food Waste Recovery Program has been a smashing success and are planning to double it before the end of the year. The more food we divert, the more people we feed, the more we care for our climate system. But, we need your help. While the food has been generously donated, to cover the logistic, delivery and operational costs required to sustain and double our impact for 2020, we need to raise a minimum of $20,000 for this program.
