Halu (hello in Inuktitut), seems fitting to share about the grade two inquiry into our northern friends living in Iqaluit, and the aiianait (wonderful) Inuit culture. Stay warm friends!
Today marks the midway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Although the blanket of snow and ice remind us that it is still winter, the small shifts of energy are occurring. Can you feel it?
We will forever cherish the medicine pouch teachings from this beautiful spirit. Hiy hiy Amy
First new moon of a new year. The canopy of stars are bright. Look up and within, light your smudge, say a prayer in your own way, breathe and set new intentions.
National Metis Week lessons and activities all week! Students can also participate in the global trend of #rockyourmocs
Our week ended with World Kindness Day and our students took the opportunity to share some kind messages with our community members. Our Niitsitapi family has been touched by so many acts of kindness from friends near and far and we wouldn’t be able to be as successful without your love and positive influence. We hope you have a beautiful day and find inspiration in this post to think positively, see the good in others, speak with compassion, and find opportunities to act with kindness.
A virtual day of Remembrance. Elder Saa’kokoto opened our day with a prayer and smudge, all stood for our Blackfoot Flag Song and Minute of Silence. Students shared songs and stories of peace and everyone received a poppy sticker. We are so proud of the respect from the Poo’kaiks (children). Thank you grade two students for hosting today’s assembly. Reminder no school tomorrow.
Today, November 8, 2020 is Indigenous Veterans Day. Ayyy, hiy hiy, siyisgass, migwetch, marsee kittitin, isniyes to all of the First Nations, Metis and Inuit people of Canada who have a long and proud tradition of military service to our country, including Kainai members Mike Mountain Horse (photo 4) and Joe Crow Chief (photo 5). Thank you to Elder Saa’kokoto for sharing family stories.
Math and science exploration and learning with pumpkins! Investigating weight, size and units of measure. All classes are having a lot of fun designing, cleaning and learning about seeds and their life cycle.
