November 20th is Trans Day of Remembrance. Our hearts are heavy with loss today as we grieve for and remember the lives lost to anti-trans violence, attitudes, and systems. These aren't just numbers. Each life lost to hatred represents a loss for the entire world, a loss of contribution and care, a loss of beauty and individuality, a loss of a better future for everyone. We must remember and we must act, every day, to ensure that we build a community in which we can all be ou...r best selves. Strong communities are born out of individuals being their best selves. Text reads: Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada/Coalition pour le droit a l'avortment au Canada. We Remember. Because you were stolen from a world that needs you desperately. Did you know that many Canadians travel to Colorado to access later abortion? If you live in Canada and need an abortion after 24 weeks, you must travel to one of the few places in the United States that offers later abortion care. Boulder, Colorado is one such place. https://rewirenewsgroup.com//colorados-abortion-ban-would/

The [Canadian Civil Liberties Association] sent a letter to the New Brunswick government Wednesday, promising legal action if the government doesn't repeal the ...law that only allows for funding for abortions done in hospitals. Mendelsohn Aviv said she doesn't believe the government will repeal the law without a fight. "Although we started it with a letter and we'd like to end it with the letter ... we are going to see it through. We have the resources. We have the support. We have the team. We have the knowledge. And we intend to pursue this all the way through until an unnecessary, unjustifiable restriction on access to abortion is removed or repealed," said Mendelsohn Aviv, the association's equality program director. She said New Brunswick continues to ignore the constitutional rights of women, girls and trans individuals. Kerri Froc, an associate law professor at the University of New Brunswick, who is helping the Canadian Civil Liberties Association in its action against the government, said it's "totally ridiculous" to have to resort to a lawsuit to get the government to make changes that every other province already has. "It shouldn't have to come to this," she said. "I just don't agree with the government spending our hard-earned tax dollars to go and try to litigate this so that people that have been denied health care are fighting against a government using their own money, essentially," said Froc. https://www.cbc.ca//ccla-threatens-lawsuit-over-abortion-1

The Ann Davis Transition Society in Chilliwack BC strongly supports free prescription contraception and has been advocating for it since January, long before MLA Laurie Throness made his ignorant comments associating contraception with eugenics. The society said it’s unfortunate it took negative comments made by a man to bring the issue into the spotlight, since women and women’s organizations have been pushing for free contraception for decades.

Finally, a lawsuit is in the works against New Brunswick! Disgraceful that it had to come to this though. If the Clinic 554's lawsuit goes forward, it will focus on NB disproportionately violating the constitutional rights of women, girls, and trans people by arbitrarily restricting access to surgical abortion, AND for violating the Canada Health Act.
