Don’t forget about your feet

About Your Feet 31.10.2020

I live with something called Ehlers Danlos-Syndrome, which is a connective tissue disorder. It’s genetic. I was born with it, but we didn’t know that’s what wa...s happening until more recently. I use a power wheelchair for mobility, and the disorder affects my whole body. Connective tissue is in every single part of your body. It’s in your skin, it’s in every organ, it’s in the ways that your arms are attached to your body. It’s in your digestive system, it’s everywhere. The way that plays out is that my connective tissue doesn’t hold everything together very well. It’s very painful, so I live with very chronic pain. At the best of times, it’s a challenge. A huge issue for me right now is that I’m having homecare workers not show up at all, or cancel. I live in the middle of the city, in the middle of everything, but I’m like a castaway on a deserted island during this pandemic. Maybe there are other people in my building living with disabilities who might be in the same boat, or far worse. And we’re all on our tiny deserted islands and just can’t reach each other. I haven’t left my apartment in more than three weeks, except for one appointment. I don’t have family in this area of Canada. I can’t go about my day if people don’t come and help me. I can’t eat. I can’t get out of bed, and get my clothes changed, and wash my face. I can’t go to the toilet. I can’t empty my catheter bag. All of these things I rely on other people for. I feel like I’m on an island, waiting for someone to show up. Waiting for that rescue ship. I’m feeling very abandoned by the system. So many of the measures that are currently being put in place to fight Covid-19 are being put in place to protect the most vulnerable people. But at the same time, there’s no real plan to support people with disabilities in the community who need care, before they get sick. All the things that are being done right now are really great and necessary to address the crisis that we’re currently in, but I feel like until I get sick, I’m kind of on my own. I get really upset and frustrated. I’m afraid. I’m afraid that it’s going to get worse and I’m afraid of what will happen after that. That if nobody shows up for days or even longer that I won’t be able to eat, that I’m going to get sick, and then have to go to the hospital. And once I’m at the hospital, I’ll be exposed to things that I wouldn’t be exposed to here, and that will cascade. I’m afraid of those things. I’m hoping people can share my story, and I also hope it causes people to reach out and connect with anyone you’re connected to who might be in a situation like this or worse. Someone with a disability or someone who might need care. Especially those who might not have any other family. I really worry about all the other people in my community who might be going through this.

Plantar Fasciitis Known as a complication in the foot that leads to pain in the heel. It affects the thick tissue band connecting the heel bone to the toes, whi...ch is called the plantar fascia. When this tissue is inflamed, it can cause a stabbing pain usually worst in the morning as your feet hit the floor. Our socks offer arch support which has provided relief to a number of our customers. Please share with any of your friends or family who might be suffering - we can help! See more

Do you have dry, cracked feet from the cold winter weve been experiencing? Here are some basic foot care tips: -Examine your feet daily for dryness, breaks i...n the skin, calluses, etc. -Use a moisturizing cream for dry and cracked skin. -If your feet sweat, dust them lightly with a talcum powder (such as baby powder). Make sure to wipe excess powder or lotion away. -Wear shoes and socks that fit your feet comfortably, and make sure to change your socks daily (dont be lazy! ) -Wash your feet daily, and always check the water temperature with your wrist or elbow to avoid burning your feet, especially if your circulation is poor. -Exercise daily! Keep your feet active and healthy About Your Feet Advanced Foot Care Nursing is at @knoticalchiropractic the third Friday of every month! Her next schedule day is Friday, March 15th from 9am-5pm. Pillow talk anyone?! ... Your pillow and the position you sleep in can affect your neck. While sleeping on your back or side is optimal for sleeping position,... the height of your pillow can change the angle that your neck is aligned in. ... Ideally, if you are a back sleeper, your pillow should support your head and neck so that your ears are in line with your shoulders. This is the best position for your neck. ... If your pillows are too high, you will be stressing and straining the neck muscles into a flexed position, which can lead to pain or stiffness in the morning. ... If youre a side sleeper, its important to make sure your pillow is high enough to support the head and neck. Its important to make sure, once again, that your ears and shoulders line up in a neutral position. ... If your pillows are too high (or too low) as a side sleeper, you can strain the neck in laterally flexed position, and wake up with pain and stiffness. ... Do you have friends who wake up with neck pain daily? Tag them so they can wake up feeling more rested! ... #neckpain #pillowtalk #headaches #wellness #sleep @ Alexander Keith's Brewery See more
