Dark church hallways and tie touch ups. One of the low key best parts of a wedding day is seeing mothers and sons do their pre-ceremony pep talk. I’m so proud of you, look how much you’ve grown into a gentleman in the last few years, where did my baby boy go? those are the behind the scenes moments that you didn’t know were happening during all the chaos a wedding day can bring. When I say I have eyes in the back of my head I mean it, I’m always on high alert for tiny moments throughout your wedding day to make sure times like these are photographed so you can look back and remember every special moment.

Running into the weekend like....

Snow covered boots, soft sunsets and rosy cheeks, I love winter the most!

Details, details, details. Arguably my favourite part of shooting a wedding is getting to play around with rings and shoes and flowers to create images of all the things that make your day extra special.

Warm winter sunsets are my fave, an by warm I actually mean -25 with a warm coloured golden hour . If you guys know me by now, you know winter is MY SEASON. I will show up in the coldest of colds with layers on, extra socks and a big smile because I love the weather the most. I can’t wait to see more adventurous clients over the chilly season!

I love a good sentimental moment on a wedding day, this veil was the brides mother’s and was her something borrowed for her own big day. How sweet is that?!?

Now that I’m caught up with sneak peeks for all my lovely clients I have a moment to share a very special session for my own family. Thanksgiving was cancelled for all 60+ members of the Bowes clan but the kids did get together with my nana for the first time in ages to share a meal and give thanks. With 7 brothers and sisters it can be hard to get everyone in the same place at the same time, but if 2020 has taught us anything it’s that family matters now more than ever and ...to take advantage of our health and circumstances while we’re still here. I snuck out to the cottage to surprise everyone and take a few photos of nana and all the kids knowing we may not get many more chances at everyone together like this. When I say no one knew this was happening I mean one of my uncles was in hip waders and the others were about to gear up to take out the docks for the season but that’s just how we do in our family. I wish I had the chance to take these photos a few years ago but even with a huge part of our family missing we still found a way to honour him and all the people he loved in the place he loved the most. It’s all laughs and smiles until someone gets snow in their socks why don’t more people get married in winter? It’s such a beautiful backdrop for photos and you never see groomsmen breaking into a mad sweat mid-way through the ceremony, win win! I love winter weddings, leave me a if you do too!

Thats one proud dad!! I grew up with a girl dad who taught me how to hunt, fish and do my own mechanic work but never said no to sitting down for a tea party or a shopping trip. Theres no greater bond than a dad and his daughter, cheers to all your girls dads!

When you say everyone fuss over the baby and they look at you like FINALLY, I thought youd never ask! Covid has led to some strange ways of interacting with your own family but once you know everybody is safe they just want to snuggle up together. How sweet are all these ladies?!

It’s a double post day!! My talented friend @megantysick let me scheme her into taking a few headshots for me between my client sessions last weekend and I’m so grateful! It’s not often I step in front of the lens rather than behind it bossing everyone around. Turns out, no matter how many poses I have in my head for other people I still have no idea what to do with my hands when I’m the subject of the photo.

Does anyone else get confused when they see photos of people hugging in 2020? Me too, but lucky for me I can keep my distance and families can get their snuggles in for some very cute photos!

The rainiest maternity session ever but totally worth hiding out under a roof during a downpour! When your BFF wants sunflower photos, you give her all the sunflower photos. This was by far the easiest, most fun session with kids Ive ever had and the cuteness, I simply cant handle it.

Open barn slats and warm light is just so magical

Lets talk about mood baby! The look and vibe of your session can vary based on the location and lighting situation, this session for example was at golden hour (AKA the best light of the day) so the first image was from earlier in the day with this beautiful momma facing away from the sun, the second is at the end of the session where shes facing directly into the setting sun. Yesterday was quite the day, I had one of those stuck in a rut, unmotivated and tired mornings that not even a huge coffee could fix. Even though I had a no good, very bad start to my day, I still managed to get in my run, meet with a potential bride for a quarantine consult and deliver this sweet gallery. I guess it wasnt terrible after all, I mean look at the cuteness!!

Sometimes the quickest snap of a moment that feels less significant on a wedding day ends up being my favourite. Just minutes before waking down the aisle, Sarah was ascending the back staircase of the beautiful codes mill and I caught a glimpse of the back of her dress and took this shot before I ran to the other side of the building to meet her groom and guests for the ceremony. This feels like so long ago, my photography has come such a long way but when I look back at moments like this I still feel energized in my craft to capture things you normally wouldnt think to. I LOVEEEEE when my couples have a change of clothes for their engagement session! Not only do you get a different look but you also set a different tone for the session so you get more out of your photos. Also, how cute are these two? Youd never know it was 40 degrees and the mosquitos were out in full force.

This sweet fam stuck it out in 30+ degree heat but it was worth it!! Cheers to clients who are down for photos no matter the weather.

Mommas make the very best models! This momma is going to welcome a sweet babe into the world in the next couple weeks and she was so calm and relaxed during our session I just know she is going to fall into motherhood seamlessly.

It felt like it was 500 degrees but you couldnt tell with these two! The heat and the mosquitoes were worth it for the magic we made during this engagement session, Im itching to share more sweetness soon!
