Hello Lethbridge! Today's tip is also very important and comes from something we found the other day. The picture below is of an old cell phone we pulled out of a bag of old phones that was dropped off. This demonstrates the importance of electronic recycling. ... If this battery had gotten any worse, it may have caught this person's house on fire. If it had been thrown in the garbage, it may have the caught the bin on fire, the garbage truck on fire or started a fire at the landfill. Many electronic devices contain lithium ion batteries: cell phones, tablets, laptops, most wireless devices and every desktop even has a small lithium ion battery to keep time and boot settings. We accept all types of batteries and the devices they are in for recycling along with a very long list of other items. See our page and pinned post for details on recycling!

Hello everyone! Today's tip could save your TV and possibly your life! AB Recycling specializes in electronic and plastic recycling for the benefit of our community. Drop offs are free and we have a $5.00 pick up service (free with over 10 electronics). For a general list of items we accept for recycling see our pinned post on our page AB Recycling or stop by at 1621 29 St North.... The #2 killer of electronics is heat. Nearly every flat screen TV that has come in for recycling has died of heat. For what ever reason, manufacturers stopped putting fans in TVs when they released the Plasma TV and from then on are prone to overheating if kept in warm area. For a long life out of your television set, operate it in a shaded area of the room away from any heat registers and occasionally blow the dust out. I can not stress this enough. Some TVs I wonder how they didn't catch on fire they had such bad heat scars in the metal and plastic. The LED strip in the second photo shows a charred LED mounted to an aluminum angle iron and it still overheated. The plexi glass behind the screen that these lit up was melted and cracked in multiple spots. This is just one example.

We thought we would share some tips for keeping your electronics at optimum performance for the longest life span possible. ... The #1 killer of electronics in this climate is dust. This computers cooling system is completely blocked, resulting in limited performance and eventually complete failure. If you own a lot of larger electronics, like TVs and desktops, we would advise investing in a small air compressor for keeping your electronics at free of dust and at optimum performance. Stay tuned for more electronic health tips!
