There’s a new way for the deaf community to express themselves on iMessage, FaceTime and emails. Thanks to an Apple iOS 15 update on September 20, 2021, individuals can now create a Memoji with a cochlear implant.
Thank you to our friends at Arbourside Court.
Hearing loss is complicated and unique to each person. Some people with hearing loss can hear only certain frequencies, while other people have no hearing at all. Others might only have hearing in one ear, or start with normal hearing that gets worse over time. Call 604.510.2299 to book an appointment. We would be happy to support you in your hearing journey! #HearingClinic #HearingServices #HearingCare #Hearing #Health#LifeIsOn
The opportunity to work for a living wage is a universal right that we should all have including those who are differently-abled. Unfortunately, many situations still arise that shows we have a way to go when it comes to equal access in the workplace. #HearingAwareness #LifeIsOn

UPDATE: Here at RMSS we are still playing the waiting game and miss the hubbub of our members in our centres. The Province wide restrictions order as of Novemb...er 25, 2020 states, venues that organize or operate indoor group physical activities must suspend them temporarily while new guidance is being developed. Our hope was that new guidelines would be available as suggested on November 30th so that we could start working on Session 3 re-starting for at least two weeks prior to Christmas. Unfortunately, Dr. Henry announced that new guidelines for group activities would not be available until late this week which is too late for staff to make it happen before Christmas. Our new date to resume activities will be the first week of January. Please look out for new details once confirmed. Two activities that are able to move forward are snooker and table tennis because they follow different guidelines under sport. Someone will be in touch with you if you are a recent past participant of these two activities to discuss registration and additional guidelines. A few other updates: for a limited time, room reservations: Need a little room to move to dance to practice Tai Chi? Are your four walls closing in? Want to listen to YOUR music at YOUR volume away from your bubble buddy? Perhaps you need some ALONE time (away from the love of your life)? Reserve your half hour at either centre. Individual reservations only, as in only YOU may come. Room will be sanitized and minimum half hour time between reservations. Book your Maple Ridge hall C times at 604-467-4993 for Tuesday and Wednesday mornings 9-9:30, 10-10:30, and afternoons 1-1:30, 2-2:30. Book your Pitt Meadows hall times at 604-457-4771 for Wednesday and Thursday mornings 9-9:30, 10-10:30, and afternoons 1-1:30, 2-2:30. GrapeVine is currently on hold but a Christmas Connections Newsletter will be emailed to members (send submissions to Carmen at [email protected] by Dec 7). Pre-registration info for January 2021 start activities will be communicated to members via email, on website and hard copies will be available (once we are able to proceed). Fundraisers for RMSS: There are a few amazing gift baskets on display at both centres. Ticket sales for the raffle of these baskets are $2 for 3 tickets. Tickets can be purchased from 9:30am-3:00pm until the 22nd. MR centre draws will be on Dec 22 & PM centre draws on Dec 23. Christmas cookies have been made in house and beautifully packaged. They can be given as gifts to others or to YOURSELF! Bags of 8 cookies are $5. Available at both lunch counters during take-away meal service. A Reason to Smile is a joke book compiled by 5 year old PM resident, Tristan. Read about the project here: https://www.cbc.ca//daily-jokes-5-year-old-pitt-meadows-bo Proceeds are being donated to RMSS and the Friends in Need Food Bank. Books cost $20, take two weeks to arrive, and can be ordered at [email protected]. Remember to pre-order your turkey dinner from either centre by the 11th of December and pick up on the 18th of December. Caregiver Connections Support Group starting in January. If you are the primary caregiver for someone over the age of 55+ and are feeling like you need some support. Get in touch with Raman our Caregiver Coordinator [email protected] or 604-380-0516. Look out for our Christmas Connections Newsletter. And remember we are always available for support or assistance for you or someone you know who might need a little help. We are just a phone call away.

Would everyone like to share this once please. It indicates that the person wearing it is deaf or hard of hearing and in some cases wears a hearing aid. In thes...e times (when wearing mouth masks) it is impossible to lip-read, which makes it extra difficult. There is little point in wearing the sign if half the people don't know what it means. The deaf and hard of hearing will thank you I'm trying to find a source of these, but thought I'd share in the meantime. Thank you Emma https://www.redbubble.com/shop/hearing+impaired+stickers
