Push it to the limit! Michelle here is demonstrating step ups. This exercise can be modified to many different strength levels. If you do not have a Pilates chair at home you can use a regular chair, or even your stairs.... Step-ups work by hitting all the major muscle groups in your lower body. Some of the targeted muscles include the quads glutes, hamstrings and calves too!

Keeping things in balance This week of pilates had a few balance exercises incorporated into the session. This made me reflect on trying to balance not only body, but my mind as well! Although sometimes difficult to do, just reflecting and recognizing what may be out of balance can be so impactful!... Charlotte reminds the class to breathe, stay steady, and keeping the core tight made me feel in control and allowed me to maintain balance! Starting my week off right with Pilates! This move may not look like much, in fact A LOT of Pilates moves look subtle yet are so powerful! What makes simple or deceiving move effective is to keep the core tight and listening to the prompts our instructor Charlotte gives us.... Moving in a sequence, activating muscles when told and breathing in a controlled way - you can really feel your muscles working in the most surprising of ways! Props to Charlotte for helping me see the diverse ways on how to move and work out!

ADD a great exercise into your life with shoulder and arm adduction! This exercise focuses on strengthening your lats, pectoralis and teres major, and your upper arm. You can do this exercise at home with therabands or hand weights. Make sure to control your arm and shoulder throughout the exercise to make the most of it!

Lesson #1 Activate that Transverse Abdominis! I may be smiling here but out instructor Michelle really had us working on our first Thursday 7pm Mat class of the year! Mat class is a great way to familiarize yourself with Pilates, and with this time slot you can finish off your day right!... Although at times hard to do it is essential to breathe through the exercise in order to complete the full move in a safe and controlled manner. Prompts from Michelle gives me that reminder that I need when focusing in on the exercise. Our instructor Michelle is motivating and energizes her class with her dynamic teaching. Ensuring that she provides modifications to all exercises in order to take really focus on technique and challenge yourself!
