A Christmas Message From Sheila And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 Dear Friends,... As I write and think about this year, I wonder about your life and what you've been through and where you are now. So often life doesn't work out as we think it will. Life can be hard. There are challenges and struggles that we didn’t see coming. That’s certainly been true this year. As we approached Christmas in 2019 no one saw what 2020 was going to bring. Think back for a moment to last year, last Christmas, what was that like for you? My husband Barry, my son and I were in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in the snow. On Christmas Eve we went to a little church in the village and discovered that the children were performing a nativity play which is always fun. There was Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus. The angel was there and the wise men from the east. There were shepherds and sheep and aduck. The Christmas duck! Now I’m pretty sure there were no ducks at the birth of Jesus so it was a very surprising sight. There are little surprises in life and then things that we simply could not have anticipated. 2020 was one of those. But let me remind you that none of this was a surprise to God. No matter what we hear on the news, God is still on the throne. And the best news - Jesus is here. He is our... Wonderful Counselor This literally translates as a wonder of a counselor. The word for wonderful is the Hebrew word pala indicates a phenomenon lying outside the realm of human explanation. It’s the same word used in Psalm 139:6: Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! Outside all human experience. Counselor: Long before that Child was born and that Son was given, God had planned to send a counselor to our broken hearted world. If you don’t know where to take your pain, take it to Jesus. Mighty God That’s the Hebrew name, El Gibbor for God. Gibbor means "mighty hero". God is our mighty hero. Hollywood's superheroes can’t come close to who our God is. Everlasting Father You may have a wonderful relationship with your father, you may have lost your father or he was never really there for you. BUT...we have an Everlasting Father who will never leave us, never. Prince of Peace Do you need God's peace this Christmas? The angels announced that Jesus came to bring peace--He came to bring people close to God and to each other again. The only way that any one of us can experience true peace is through Jesus. He is our hope for 2020 and 2021 and forever. I don't want to end the year without asking you if you personally know this Prince of Peace. This is not about religion, it’s about relationship. If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 (NIV) Jesus is Lord and He loves you. There is hope! May the love of Christ fill your hearts and homes this Christmas. Christ our Saviour has come for you and me. Love, Sheila
