Content Warning: Gender-based violence, sexual violence 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign addressing gender based violence that affects women and girls all around the world created by the United Nations. According to the Government of Canada, over half of Canadian women have dealt with at least one act of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16. The purpose of this initiative is to address the disproportionate amount of vio...lence faced by women and girls, and to encourage the global community to reflect on what each of us can do to prevent this breach of fundamental human rights. Creating a safer world starts with taking a stand against gender based violence. This includes, but is not limited to, listening to survivors, believing their experiences, calling in/out violence when you see it, finding a safe way to support survivors, and standing by organizations working to end violence. Remember that your safety and boundaries are key and you must assess this first prior to providing any support. Listen to what the survivor wants and needs and reach out to existing organizations providing this support for survivors. #16daysofactivism #orangetheworld #genderbasedviolence #abuseneverbecomesus #humanrights
On this day we at A.N.B.U reflect on the sacrifices of all those who have lost their lives for the freedom and self determination of our people. We recognize that we have the right to mourn and remember these people, even when our voices continue to be silenced in the homeland and in cyberspace. As we remember our Maveerar and take pride in their legacy, we would also like to recognize that on this day, many folks within the community could be experiencing grief, hopelessness, flash-backs, and re-experiencing trauma. We would like to encourage that we hold space for those who may be experiencing trauma while also ensuring resources are provided. Please reach out to us or appropriate services if you need to. #WeRemember27 #WeRememberWeResist #Karthigai27 #MaveerarNaal #Rememberresist
