This beautiful yarn is 25% off until Saturday! Naturally black, the wool comes from all black sheep called Black Welsh Mountain sheep. This beautiful undyed yarn is available in a fingering single (Heirloom BWM) or pictured here as Harvest Aran BWM. Over the years we worked with the farmers to get this: our softest batch of black yarn yet! The flock lives near Innisfail, AB. Happy sheep, happy yarn! #LocalYarn #LocalWool #MadeInAB #MadeInCanada Link in bio for our online shop.

This yarn (Harvest Aran Dorset/BWM) has been a cornerstone for us for several years. A blend of Black Welsh Mountain black wool and Dorset white wool, this heathered grey is perfect for projects that need structure, toques, mittens, sweaters. (Cables anyone?) Want to dye it? It will be lovely, the white fibres will soak up the dye and the black fibres will keep giving it a heathered look! Plus it’s 25% off until July 25th when our shop closes. #localyarn #localyarn #yarnsale

The Alberta Yarn Project 30.07.2020

These two!! Okay, so this photo doesn’t do justice to how BEAUTIFUL the Brown Ruskea yarn is. Y’all will just have to trust us. This pair were made for each other. The Finn wool has beautiful luster and drape. We’ve updated the website to reflect all our inventory, so there is plenty of both these beauties for you! We call it lace because it’s just shy of fingering, due to the smoothness of the fibres. Held double it becomes DK! Both are 25% off until July 25, when we close up our online shop. #woolenspun #perfectpair #yarn #localwool #localyarn #ABmade

The Alberta Yarn Project 10.07.2020

Hello from the office! We are all smiling, I promise. As we sorted through our office, we firmed up all the inventory. So: check out the website, there may be more of something you’d like. Our SALE goes until July 25th and most of the yarn is 25% off with some yarn at 50% off! Make a rug! Or a sweater! Or some art! And a huge THANK YOU to all of you who have supported us through all these times. We have been blown away by all the orders this week! Thank you thank you thank you.

The Alberta Yarn Project 05.07.2020

Hello Yarn & Wool Lovers What a time we live in. 2020! Am I right?!? Our year isn't looking like what we imagined when we rang in the new year 6 months ago. As we all navigate this time of change, stress, and transition, we are all learning, growing and changing personally, and as a society. And our business, the Alberta Yarn Project, isn't immune to these challenging times. It has been a rough couple of months, trying to figure out what AYP looks like with digital Craft & D...raught, no markets, and only online sales. We have thought and talked and dreamed and cried and talked some more about what this project looks like, what it needs to be and where it's going, and where we are going, and growing, as people too. So the time has come for the Alberta Yarn Project to shift once again, and transition into.... something. As of this moment, we are still figuring out how best to serve this work, this community. We aren't disappearing, but we will be making some major changes. Most importantly, we need to give up our office space and online shop presence. This transition is important for all of us to be grounded as people at this turbulent time. Our website will change, but will still exist and you can still find us on Facebook & Instagram. "But what does this mean?" you are asking. It means we are going to have a SALE to say Thank You to all of you wonderful folks who have been supporting us all these years. From July 4 - 25th our yarn will be on sale on the website. (25% off most yarn, 50% off selected yarn). After that, you can find our yarn in a few great places. Kalea will be selling naturally dyed and undyed Alberta sourced yarn as @kaleatheluddite Alliston will be selling her beautiful hand spun yarn & fibre at @nomadfibreworks. @carla_knit2yarns in Kamloops has AYP yarn for sale, and @squishfibre, @sunflowerknit, and @neatnikyarns are using AYP bases for some of their beautifully dyed yarns as well. We want to thank all of you for being with us so far on this wild ride. The future looks murky right now, but we will make it through one stitch at a time. Our community is resilient, strong and caring, and we are so lucky to be a part of it.

The Alberta Yarn Project 15.06.2020

Been thinking a lot about our space, the room we take up and our place in our Fibre community. Thinking about our name, Alberta, and how that related to colonizing. Thinking about our interactions with BIPOC folks & makers. How are we serving you? How have we excluded you? (Unintentionally, but I know that intentions are not worth as much as action.) What does AYP look like post-pandemic? What is art vs craft vs trade? Here are some slides from @movement_to_decolonize with some thought provoking questions. What is the history of knitting & crochet in so-called Alberta? How are we dismantling colonialism? How are we enabling it? #decolonizethisplace #indigenouslivesmatter #blacklivesmatter

The Alberta Yarn Project 01.06.2020

It’s Pride. We see and celebrate our friends, neighbours, customers and peers in this Fibre community, and love them for who they are. We stand with you. We fight with you for equity and justice.

The Alberta Yarn Project 26.05.2020

We stand in solidarity with our BIPOC friends and neighbours. Black lives matter. We strive to make our space safe from discrimination and violence. There is always more we can do in community to support folks who need it, and we are working on ourselves too.

The Alberta Yarn Project 12.05.2020

The Alberta Yarn Project 15.03.2020

These lovely Brown Moorit skeins are the last three. The nature of our small batch yarns mean that once they are gone, they are gone. This Shetland DK yarn is quite soft with beautiful drape, and is probably your next sweater. While there are only three left in Brown Moorit, there are skeins in White Musket and Black Shaela to compliment each other. Harvest DK Shetland is available on our website, the link is in our bio. Happy crafting!

The Alberta Yarn Project 10.03.2020

The Alberta Yarn Project 02.02.2020

We’re pretty sure Kalea captured sunshine when she used locally foraged tansy to naturally dye these skeins! Held double they match our Harvest DK Finn. On their own, they pair with their base in White Valkoinen, Brown Ruskea and Tansy green too! Heirloom Lace Finn has beautiful drape and lustre. And these sheep live in Fort Saskatchewan in the summers! Local wool, local colour! #naturaldyes #tansy #sunshine #localwool #localsheep #sopretty

Sure it feels like spring, but in Alberta, we might need our warm woolens at any time, right? Swipe for more pictures. Link is in our bio for our online shop. Can’t wait to see what you make! #abwool #shoplocal #madeinAB #madeinCanada #farmtoyarn #woolenspunyarn

The Alberta Yarn Project 06.01.2020

I’m still obsessed with @kaleatheluddite and her new sweater. And this fun photoshoot! If you and your partner and both great photographers, a river valley walk turns into a beautiful photoshoot! If you’re in Edmonton, curbside pickup is available on on Saturday afternoons. Working on a great pattern by @october.evening Wheat City hat. I love it in our Harvest Aran yarn. But I can’t wait until we have some more naturally dyed golden yarn to pair with it, don’t you think?! Our next online shop update will have some colour! #localwool #localdesigners #fibreshed #madeincanada

The Alberta Yarn Project 09.06.2019

These beautiful Shetland colours are all natural. We researched the traditional names of the Shetland fleeces to name our yarn! They look great in the photos, but they are extra special in person. The Shetland has beautiful drape and the subtleties of each colour play well together. The Brown Moorit has been asking me to be a cable sweater for a long time, and with all this time at home, it might be time! How about you? #shetland #localwool #madeinAB #madeincanada #breedsoecificyarn #woolenspun

The Alberta Yarn Project 20.05.2019

Here’s our most recent batch of our Harvest BWM (Black Welsh Mountain.) This all black wool is undyed and cones from all black sheep!! This flock lives near Innisfail, AB. As we learn more and more about sheep and wool, we become more discerning about which fleeces are best for our wool yarn. This batch of BWM is our softest yet, and pairs perfectly with our other Harvest Aran yarn for sweaters, mitts & hats! #localwool #localyarn #farmtoyarn #abmade #madeincanada #slowfashion #neutrals #woolenspun

The Alberta Yarn Project 09.05.2019

These three yarns just wanna be your next colourwork project!! Heirloom Fingering is a skinny single, (we call it a 1-ply) and is perfect for warm and lightweight sweaters, mittens and more!
