Should you be looking for an exciting woodwind to play, one that takes not only manual dexterity and breath control but craftsmanship, look no further than the oboe! Oboes were introduced around the mid-17th century, right in the middle of the Baroque era. They were derived from another instrument, known as the shawm, which bore some similarities to the oboe. At its origin, the oboe had three keys and was made of boxwood; today’s oboes are more complex in their construc...tion, typically featuring forty-five keys made of metal and a body made out of grenadilla, a type of wood. The end of the oboe is known as the bell, owing to its shape, while the body is conical. At the tip of the oboe where the player blows is a double reed. And now you know! See more

The French horn, today more commonly referred to as simply the horn, is an instrument that has gone through many changes over the years. The sounds the most common variant, the double horn, can make, span over four octaves, from deep, rich and warm lows to vibrant and bright highs. The instrument has been used for centuries in orchestral compositions, and can be employed as a solo instrument or in groups, like brass quintets. ... We love the expressive tones this instrument can create, and we can’t wait to help aspiring hornists learn to play! See more

In Flanders Fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row,... That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. #rememberance #rememberanceday #poppy #lestweforget #valour #winnipeg #manitoba

Flutes are one of the most diverse and historically significant categories of instruments you can find. Some of the first carvings known to man are flutes! In their most basic form, flutes are simply open tubes which are blown into; over time, players learn to focus the air-direction and force of their blowing in order to produce different sounds. ... All flutes are variations on this simple concept, but the variety found within the category flute is truly exceptional! See more

The electric bass, sometimes known as the bass guitar, or simply the bass, has been the bass instrument of choice for rhythm sections in popular music for the last few decades. Tuned in a manner similar to its predecessor, the double bass, the electric bass most often has four strings tuned one octave lower than the guitar’s bottom four strings (E-A-D-G). We can’t imagine what popular music would sound like without the bass, so we have exciting plans to help you reach your bass playing potential!

You can learn drums at home with our amazing program; don’t worry, with electric drums or special pads, it’s easy to mute the drums enough that you won’t draw any glares from the neighbors. Learning at home makes people feel more comfortable, and draws out the best music from them, so we strongly endorse this practice! At The Academy of Music, we teach The Suzuki Violin method, which isn’t just a method; it’s a philosophy of music and the mind. Shinichi Suzuki, a master violinist, developed the technique after living in Germany, where he noted how easily children picked up German when immersed in the culture. He theorized that because music is a language, the best way to teach a child musicality was by immersing them in it, training their ears to recognize the beauty of fine music. . . . .... . . . #winnipegbusiness #winnipegmusic #manitobamusic #musiclessons #winnipeg #manitoba #musician #singer #teacher #classes #student #studentlife #school #wpgnow #wpg #ywg #gowpg #piano #guitar #sing #violin #ukulele #drums #keyboard #clarinet #cello #bass #flute #oboe #saxophone See more
