We’re excited to announce our 2021 schedule! Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this schedule is subject to change. #Staysafe and we hope to see you soon! #snowbirds50 #cfsnowbirds
******SPECIAL NOTICE****** Due to the current Covid-19 situation in the Halifax area the museum will remain closed to visitors. As the rules ease we will be once again open on Saturdays for visitors. Thanks for understanding!
CLOSED FOR SEASON: We are now closed for the season, REOPENING MAY 2021. Off-season visits are available most Saturdays, weather permitting. Volunteers are at the museum most Saturdays from 10 am - 3 pm working on restorations. Drop by to see them in action or lend a helping hand (entrance by hangar door). (recommended to call first to make sure someone is there) Precautionary measures remain in place to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Our priority is to ensure the safety of our visitors, volunteers, and staff.
Join us next week on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 7pm (AST), when the RNSHS will host Col. (Ret'd) John L. Orr, Volunteer Researcher at the Shearwater Aviatio...n Museum, for a virtual public presentation entitled 'Seven Flags Over Shearwater'. Shearwater, located on the eastern shore of Halifax harbour, has made a major, although largely unrecognized, contribution to aviation in Canada. Since its inception in 1918, the air station has served under a variety of commands and services hence ‘Seven Flags’ in the title. All are welcome! Find the Zoom link via the RNSHS website at https://www.rnshs.ca/?cat=27 (Photo credit: Shearwater Aviation Museum)
Thank You!!!!!!!!! A busy day at the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum gift shop. Thanks to everyone who came out to support our museum and get some holiday shopping done early. The proceeds from gift shop sales helps support ongoing restorations and collections development.

While at the museum last night our little groundhog, yet to be named, came out to give us some help with the yard work. Thanks buddy.
Museum member Chris Couture pressure washing our from sidewalk. What a difference. Nice work Chris!
A foggy start to the day here at the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum! Some of you may drive by our CF-101 Voodoo daily and wonder what its all about... the Voodoo was an all-weather aircraft tasked with protecting Canada from enemy bombers during the Cold War; intercepting many Soviet bombers off Canadian soil on a regular basis. This aircraft was fairly fast and could empty fuel tanks in 8 minutes! It had a crew of 2, the pilot and the radar operator and it could carry 2 guided missiles or 2 nuclear tipped rockets. The paint scheme on this aircraft was special for the closing out of the Voodoo operations in 1984. 416 Lynx Squadron was based in #Chatham #NewBrunswick #acam #aircraft #cf101 #voodoo #coldwar #protectingcanada #museum #halifax #novascotia #lynxsquadron #canada #plane #airplane #atlanticbubble #opensaturdays #explorens
Good morning Nova Scotia!! It’s going to be another hot one today!Make sure you are staying out of the sun and drinking lots of water to keep yourself cool
The CF-100 is the only jet-fighter that was designed and built in Canada that saw service with the military; it is subsonic and considered the best all weather aircraft of its day!

The Canadian Army first used the L-19 Bird Dog aircraft to support Army artillery units, scouting for targets for the artillery to strike. Once a ground target was found, the L-19 would fly under the arc of the shells, remaining in the vicinity of the target, spotting the falling rounds and advising the gunners how to adjust their fire. #aircraft #l19birddog #l19 #museum #halifax #explorens #atlanticbubble

The German V1 flying buzz bomb was one of the first successful guided weapons. Commonly referred to as the Doodle Bug it was launched from ramps or bombers. 9000 were fired on England with the first hitting London on June 13th, 1944. V1s were powered by Argus pulsejet engines and could reach speeds up to 580 km/h, carried bombs weighing 820kg as far as 240 km and when the engine ran out of fuel it would dive and explode on impact. #history #v1buzzbomb #aviation #warhistory #acam #museum #halifax #novascotia @ Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum
The 3rd in our "Fly Around" video series, we fly around and INSIDE our sub hunting Tracker aircraft. Visit our web page at www.ACAMUSEUM.ca for more information.
The Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum has some really out of this world artifacts, like this space shuttle tire which flew on NASAs mission STS-90. This particular mission was a 17 day life sciences research flight that focused on the most complex systems and least understood part of the human body - the nervous system. It examined the effects of space flight on the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and sensory organs in the human body. Fun fact - a space shuttle main land...ing gear tire can carry 3X the load of a Boeing 747 tire or the entire starting line-up of a NASCAR race - 40 race cars - all hitting the pavement at about 250 miles per hour! Bonus - ACAMs space shuttle tire is signed by renowned Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield! Come check it out for yourself, we are open Saturdays from 10:00am-4:00pm! #museum #halifax #NASA #spaceshuttle #michelin #aviation #space #astronaut #novascotia #discovernovascotia #artifacts #aviationmuseum See more

Air Show Atlantic 2020 scheduled to take place in Debert, Nova Scotia on August 29th and 30th has been cancelled. Due to the risk factors of COVID-19, the disru...ption to our ability to maintain regular operations/planning and the unknown provincial government health regulations for large gatherings the Nova Scotia International Air Show Association has decided for those reasons to cancel this years air show. The safety of our fans, performers, volunteers, and all those who attend Air Show Atlantic will always be our top priority. While some easing of restrictions have recently occurred, as an association we cannot anticipate having a high level of confidence in the ability to screen those coming to the event. The COVID-19 pandemic has also greatly affected our ability to plan and properly prepare to host an Air Show in just 2 months. We attempted to wait, learn and observe in hopes hosting the show would be tenable, but a safe path forward just does not exist for 2020. We are as disappointed as many of you will be. This said, we are turning the page to planning for our 2021 show and are happy to share that it is our intention to host the Air Show at the Debert Airport in 2021. The Air Display line up will be re-designed from what was planned in 2020 out of necessity due to factors that include the ability to book non-Canadian performers safely and financial considerations. What is next? Time for the good news. Our organization will be using this time to evolve and grow many aspects of our Association. Without letting all our surprises out of the bag today, we can share that Air Show Atlantic will be getting a digital brand makeover very soon. This won't just impact our brand appearance, but also how and what we are communicating to you, the frequency of our content and its quality. Our goal is to provide you our fans more value than ever before! All the ways in which we will be doing that will be rolled out regularly in the coming months. So while today is disappointing for all of us, internally we are very excited about the future of Air Shows in Atlantic Canada and soon we will be giving you all reason to be as well! Happy to answer all the questions everyone may have in the comments section! #AirShowATL #Avgeek #Aviation #AirShow #AirShows #NovaScotia #Debert #Avgeeks #Halifax #PEI #NewBrunswick
The museum is going to be opening on Saturdays starting on June 27th from 10 am until 4pm. We will be following all Covid-19 health safety practices including the 2 meter physical distancing. Like everywhere else in Nova Scotia if you are not feeling well or have any of the other published symptoms please do not visit us at this time. We will have to limit the number of visitors to 50 at any given time.
Before designing the Silver Dart (our replica can be seen in the background of this photo) Alexander Graham Bell used tetrahedral cells in his experiments with kites. A kite flies when all forces (lift, weight, drag and thrust) are balanced. The lifting force in a tetrahedral kite comes from catching and deflecting air. Air is not able to pass through the kite so it gets blown down at an angle through the tetrahedral cells. Newtons third law of motion states - for every acti...on there is an equal and opposite reaction - this downward movement of air causes an upward force on the kite, causing it to lift! The two tetrahedral cells on display in our collection, as pictured here, were two original tetrahedral cells used by Alexander Graham Bell in his experiments with kites! #themoreyouknow #museum #alexandergrahambell #aviation #silverdart #novascotia #history #halifax #acam See more
This is the oldest known Homebuilt aircraft in Nova Scotia. It was built by Charles Craig of Truro, NS in the early 1930s. After 50 years, it was discovered in an attic and donated to the Museum, making it the first aircraft the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum acquired. After approximately 325 hours of restoration by Museum volunteers, including the addition of the undercarriage, engine and cowling to suggest what it may have looked like, it currently sits on display in the lobby of the Museum and is the first thing visitors see as they enter. #museum #aviationmuseum #novascotia #truro #airplane #homebuilt #homebuiltaircraft
