We would like to thank Government of Canada's Emergency Community Support Fund #ECSFund the Community Foundations of Canada Employment and Social Development Canada for providing us with a grant for our Keeping Women Connected Safely project. This project is to provide women impacted by intimate partner violence and sexual assault with mobile phones which become part of their safety plan and helps them connect with counselling and other services.
Wishing you health and happiness in 2021.
Cermaq Canada asked their suppliers to consider giving to a cause that has meaning for them in lieu of anything for Cermaq this year. Marina from Alberni Island Shuttle chose us. Thank you so much Marina. We appreciate your generosity.

We are honoured to be entrusted with the delivery of the Emergency Sexual Assault Responders Community Initiative (SARCI) in Port Alberni. The SARCI project will undertake to offer culturally sensitive and trauma-informed services to survivors of sexual assault including emergency response, emotional support and assistance with transportation. The program will also develop a collaborative approach in the region and conduct service gap analyses to identify targeted solutions in the Alberni Valley. https://endingviolence.org//EVA-BC-Funding-Announcement-FI

At Global 16 Days Campaign, we believe that a world without violence is possible. Let's work towards eliminating gender-based violence (GBV) through a combinati...on of collective and individual actions, both big and small as well as personal and political, which echo and have impact all year round. On December 10, and onward, join UNFPA and Global 16 Days Campaign to show your commitment to ending #GBV. Inspire someone to be a changemaker. Become a #GBVDisruptor! #NoMoreMissingRights Listen to what Krishanti Dharmaraj, our Executive Director at Center for Women's Global Leadership has to say:
Coastal Community Credit Union came through with this wonderful donation to help us spread some Holiday joy. We are very grateful for their continuing support.

Did you know: About 1 in 4 women in Canada lived with a disability, and, in the provinces in 2018, about 40% of women living with a disability said that they we...re sexually assaulted at some point since age 15. That is about 1.5X times higher than women without a disability. On the International Day of Disabled Persons, let’s stand up and support persons with disabilities, to end #GBV. http://ow.ly/jQrO50CzZff #16Days #IDPD

GBV is fuelled by misogyny. It is more than expecting women to conform to specific gender roles; It’s about male power - and denying power to anyone who doesn’t conform to it. Learn more @ the GBV Knowledge Centre. http://ow.ly/Urlt50CzYZS #16Days #GBV
Day 7: In the spotlight today are sex workers Today is World AIDS Day. Sex workers face intense stigma in healthcare, in part due to the criminalization of th...eir work. They have reported experiencing discrimination in hospitals and other health centers when attempting to seek treatment for HIV/AIDS or other conditions, sometimes being made to pay additional fees or face unnecessarily long wait times. #NoMoreMissingRights #RatifyILO190 [Photo caption: An yellow poster with "Day 7" written on it]

Myth Vs Fact: MYTH: They sent me an intimate photo. It’s no big deal if I show it to my friends. FACT: Without consent from the sender, sharing is cyber-violen...ce. If a friend shows you an intimate photo they received, contact law enforcement. The 16 Days against Gender-Based Violence is a great opportunity to learn more about consent and #GBV. Our GBV Knowledge Centre has information and resources to get you started. http://ow.ly/kDY550Cv5Wj #16Days #Consent
Day 3: In the spotlight today are domestic workers An estimated 67 million people globally are employed as domestic workers, of which 80% are women. Lacking rec...ognition and protection from their governments, domestic workers have been acutely impacted by COVID-19 - the risks include contracting the virus, of being overworked, or losing their livelihoods. #NoMoreMissingRights #RatifyILO190 [Photo caption: An yellow poster with "Day 3" written on it]
Day 2: Day to take action! Informal women workers face precarious workplace conditions and are typically excluded from national labor laws and denied social pro...tection. ILO Convention 190 was adopted to end violence & harassment in the world of work for ALL women & it applies to both formal and informal economy. Launch a petition to raise awareness & call upon governments to #RatifyILO190. A sample petition from our advocacy guide here: https://drive.google.com//1R-6F6NKoDMQl0ebgIoM2IyQOZN/view Uruguay and Fiji are the two countries that have ratified the Convention so far. #NoMoreMissingRights #RatifyILO190

Please spread the word. This simple hand single is a way for people at risk of violence at home to reach out for help. Share often, it could help someone you know.
The way we raise boys in our society leads to toxic ideas of what it means to be a man Toxic masculinity is dangerous to individuals of all genders; promoting t...hese limited expressions of what it means to be a man does not allow people to grow into their fullest potential Not only do these harmful understandings of what it is to be a man lead to acts of violence, they causes mental illness in boys and men from being pressured to reach unattainable standards; while women report higher rates of mental illness, men are more likely to die by suicide We must push back against the social messages which teach us genders (and other identity categories) are defined as opposites with strict roles and attitudes; there are more similarities between us than differences Let’s promote a masculinity that supports compassion, allowing men to show empathy and emotions, providing them opportunities to both give and receive support
We love this beautiful take on the #SignalForHelp from artist Yaw Tony! This November, to bring awareness to the ongoing risk of increased gender-based violenc...e during the pandemic, we’ve launched a curated selection of artistic expressions of the signal for you to share on social. Wishing everyone a Happy and Safe Halloween.
