Have you made your voice heard yet? There is one day left in Parks Canada public consultation exercise on Mountain Parks' management plans! It's never too late to chip in Here's what they have to say: "Join the conversation! From April 14 until July 7, you're invited to provide feedback on the draft park management plans for Banff, Jasper, Waterton Lakes, Yoho, Kootenay, Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks.... All Canadians are invited to share their views on these plans. The results of this engagement phase will help to finalize the management plans, after which they will be approved and tabled in Parliament and used to guide the overall direction of park management for the next ten years." https://www.letstalkmountainparks.ca/

Did you know that on June 1, the province rescinded the 1976 'Coal Policy'? This decision, without consultation with Albertans, removed specific land designations that defined where coal mining could and couldn't take place. Now, over 53,000 square kilometers in the mountains and foothills of Alberta's eastern slopes are at increased risk of open-pit coal mines. With nearly 1,000 active mine lease applications, the impact on the water, wildlife and Albertans' treasured recrea...tion areas is significant. Stand up for the places you love! Love Your Headwaters - an initiative led by Y2Y and CPAWS - is collecting images and stories of our special places to show how much Albertans revere these landscapes. Check out the map below and see how your favorite hike, climb, campsite, or favorite mountain view might be affected, and send a note to [email protected] with a photo or story to show your support for keeping these areas free from coal mines. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit A message created by Tim Johnson Alberta Program Associate Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative.
