I love money. I love everything about it. I bought some pretty good stuff. Got me a $300 pair of socks. Got a fur sink. An electric dog polisher. A gasoline powered turtleneck sweater. And, of course, I bought some dumb stuff, too. Steve Martin What is the most wasteful, frivolous or regretful thing you have spent money on?

For anyone who has been in a Womencents Money Club, these Savings Tips will not be new but are worth reviewing! 1) Make savings AUTOMATIC - Yesterday I met with... a woman who was in a past Womencents Money Club and I asked her if she had made any changes after the course and, if so, what has had the biggest impact. Setting up AUTOMATIC savings from her pay cheque was a key one! This makes sure she is saving for an emergency, her goals and retirement and not waiting until the end of the month to see what is "left over" which she admitted would likely be little or nothing. And guess what? She doesn't miss this money when it is transferred automatically into Savings! 2) NAME it - what are you saving for? If you are clear on your goals and why this money will be important for you in the future, then you are more likely to stick with your Savings plans. 3) Think SMALL - we aren't often told to think small, but with savings, this works. It is more important we START a behaviour and make this part of our routine, than worry that it isn't enough. We can adjust along the way. Just START! Want to save another $1,378 this year? Every WEEK put away an amount starting at $1, then $2 the following week, $3 the next week and so on until the 52nd week you save $52. Alternatively you can do this in reverse to see your savings build more quickly early on and start with $52 the first week, then $51 the following week, $50, and so on until you save $1 the last week. You will have saved $1,378 over that 52-week period! 4) Turning a PAYMENT into SAVINGS - In the Money Club course, we talk about this concept when it comes to debt repayment. The premise behind this is whenever we have money "freed up" because we no longer have a payment or we have managed to cut an expense, then we must make sure to allocate that same amount to savings or debt repayment to prevent it from being "lost" in our overall household spending which we know can so easily happen. Please share your thoughts on what Savings behaviour has worked for you or send a PM if you have any questions! https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-four-ways-to-tri/
