Opening Prayer We praise you, great God, for you are ruler of the universe and have sent your Son to be King of kings.... We rejoice that he has triumphed over all the powers of this world and governs the nations in justice and righteousness. We celebrate his victory in his life, death, resurrection, and ascension to honor and might at your side. By your Spirit, claim our complete loyalty, establish Christ’s rule in every land and in every heart. Accept our worship as we offer our lives in the service of Christ’s kingdom. He is Lord forever and ever. Amen. ___________ Bible Readings Read One, two or all the passages below and reflect on what it the Reign of Christ means for us as a follower of Jesus. Mark 8:31-38 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. Get behind me, Satan! he said. You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human conc...Continue reading

Opening Prayer Lord God, the words Jesus is King come easily to our lips, yet we often fail to grasp the significance of what they mean for us. Today, help us worship you in spirit and truth,... and give us a vision for how we may live in honor to you every day of our lives, through Christ, our Lord. Amen. ___________ Bible Readings Read One, two or all the passages below and reflect on what the Kingdom of Christ promises to us as a follower of Jesus. John 21:1-19 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. 3 I’m going out to fish, Simon Peter told them, and they said, We’ll go with you. So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. 4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did...Continue reading

Whether you are a follower of Jesus or not, we would all do well to study the communication practices of the one person that many believe to be the greatest communicator in all of history. Jesus’ communication style focused on two things: He told great stories and asked great questions. Most of us ask a lot of questions because we do not know the answers. That was never true of Jesus. He knew the answers and yet he focused so much of his interaction with people on asking t...Continue reading
