"Tompkins once said of her patchworks, 'I think it’s because I love them so much that God let me see all these different colors, I hope they spread a lot of love.' If you are not yet familiar with the brilliant work of Rosie Lee Tompkins, improvisational quilt-maker, story teller and one of the most fascinating artists of the 20th Century, we encourage you to read the in-depth article on her life and legacy written by Chief Art Critic Roberta Smith of the NY Times. ... Read the full story here: https://www.nytimes.com//d/rosie-lee-tompkins-quilts.html "Born Effie Mae Howard in 1936 in Arkansas, the artist later adopted the pseudonym Rosie Lee Tompkins. She learned quilting from her mother as a child but did not begin to practice the craft seriously until the 1980s, when she was living in the Bay Area city of Richmond. Tompkins employed a wide variety of traditional patterns, including half-squares, medallions, and yo-yos, exploring and adapting these approaches through her individual sensibility and integrating such favorite fabrics as velvet, artificial fur, and various types of glittery material." - The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive @bampfa have the largest, most comprehensive exhibition of Rosie Lee Tompkin’s work, fully exploring the depth, dimension, and impact of this extraordinary artist. While the exhibition may be currently closed, it will return when the museum reopens this fall. #rosieleetompkins #bampfa Image credits: UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Eli Leon Bequest; Sharon Risedorph and Ben Blackwell See more

An uplifting moment that we all need right now. In January, we put a call out to see who could help with Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild ‘s quilt block project in their quest to make quilts for wildfire-affected families within their communities. And our community responded, THANK YOU. Because of your generosity + creative minds we were able to collect and send over a 1000 quilt blocks to Australia. Head over to @wollongongmqg ‘s instagram feed to take a look at some of t...he quilts they have started to make with your blocks. Thank you to each and every one of you who took the time to contribute to this project. City Palace in Jaipur, India is a beautiful blend of Rajasthani + Mughal architecture. Gorgeous hand painted rooms, intricate detailing on the walls, gold and mirrored glass work fill each level. The palace was built in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of the city of Jaipur. The quietness of Chhavi Nivas, better known as the "blue room" might just be one of our favourite places within. You'll have time during our October Ace Camp to explore the palace... for yourself.
