ACO North Waterloo 11.11.2020

Its official, York Square will soon be demolished. Toronto East York Community Council ignored staff and the Toronto Preservation Board and voted in favour of ...demolition this week. York Square was important, but no longer appreciated in its neighbourhood. There is a proposal for a 29 storey condominium tower to replace it which area residents favour. At a time when urban renewal was the norm, this seminal 1968 project by developer David Wookey and architects Diamond and Myers marked a world breakthrough in combining new and old and making new places. It was widely copied and set a pattern for gentle intensification in Toronto, which still resonates. ACO Toronto and Old Toronto recently released a video on its history, which may be all that will be left to tell its story. http://ow.ly/xRYT50Ci5cY

City Council meets on November 3rd to discuss the demolition of the Preston Springs. ACO Cambridge would appreciate support: please register as a delegate and let council know this important landmark needs to be saved.

Believed to have been built by one of the original settlers in the 1880s but not on the heritage register.... Can it be saved?
