In Ontario, the weather has been very hot and dry. During these dry conditions, we recommend that you gently and slowly water your trees so the ground has time to absorb it. This sounds obvious, we know, but we have found that lawns and gardens get lots of the wet stuff, but not always the trees. And they love a good drink, too!
We've had another ice storm, and unfortunately there is a lot of damage out there. Losing a tree or branches of trees under these circumstances is never easy, as trees are often very cherished to home owners. We understand this, as our own birch tree is struggling right now. If you need a quote for storm damage, please call 905-715-1804. We offer compassionate complimentary, no obligation quotes. Stay safe.
Poplar Tree: Friend or Foe? Poplar trees, also known as Cottonwoods, are fast growing and attractive trees. They are, however; not terribly strong and tend to die quickly once they reach maturity. We remove many Poplar trees that are close to houses, utility wires, playgrounds and pools (in their never ending search for water, the roots have been known to permeate the foundation of pools, septic tanks and sewers) . If your Poplar trees are at the back of your property and have lots of room to grow, they are your friend. If they live too close to your home, pool, septic, or utilty wires, they are your foe and they need to go. Call us now if you need a quote, and we will offer an antidote. (We're good rhymers, too!) 905-715-1804
I always recommend to customers to get more than one quote and to feel good about who they are hiring. This company will be on your property, possibly interacting with your neighbours, and overseeing the safe removal or pruning of your trees, bushes, shrubs etc. Feeling comfortable with the employees of that comapany is paramount. We offer safe, knowledgeable, friendly, skilled service and your satisfaction with our work is our number one priority.
Sometimes we have to cancel your treework because of weather. Today, for example, is very windy where we live, and it would be unsafe to send our climber up into a tree. We ask for your patience and understanding if we have to move your work to another day.
Fall is a great time to have tree work done. With the deciduous trees losing their leaves, pruning and removal are much easier.
What is the difference between a face cord and a bush cord of firewood? A bush cord is 4 feet wide by 4 feet tall by 8 feet long, which is 128 ft. of firewood. A face cord is 16 inches wide, by 4 feet tall, by 8 feet long. A face cord is one third the size of a bush cord. For more information, or to order some firewood, please call 905 715 1804.
In January and February, besides selling firewood, Acorn to Oak Tree Service does interior handyman work, small jobs that include: drywall repair, tiling and tile repair, painting, carpentry and simple plumbing and electrical work. For a free estimate, please call 905-715-1804 and ask for Jeff.
When a new tree is planted planters place a wood or metal stake with a strap around the tree. Theses should be removed after a year or two when the tree is sturdy enough to stand by itself. We remove trees that are rotten inside due to the strap having grown into the tree. This can be prevented by removing the strap, so the tree can grow and reach its full potential.
Decorating outdoor trees with lights is a beautiful way to enjoy the holiday season. They are appreciated by homeowners and neighbours alike. One thing to remember is the importance of removing them each season as opposed to leaving them on until next year. The reason for this is that the tree grows in size, but the strand of lights does not, and what can happen is that the branch or trunk will grow around the lights, embedding them into the tree. This can compromise the structure and strength of the tree. So by all means, decorate your trees, just remove the lights when the season is over!
Here is a firewood tip. Many people think that surrounding their firewood with, say, a tarp, is a good way to sheid it from moisture to keep it dry. It is true that firewood benefits from being covered, but surrounding the whole pile in a tarp actually tends to hold moisture in and prevents the wood from breathing. Put only a cover over the top of the wood, so that wind/air can circulate through to keep your wood dry.
We are pleased to offer firewood delivery for the first time this winter season. We offer quality firewood in facecord or bushcord quantities. A facecord is 16" length wood, four feet tall by eight feet wide. A bushcord is threeface cords. The cost of a bushcord is $400 plus tax, delivery included. A facecord is $150 plus tax, delivery included. There may be an additional delivery charge for residents who reside outside of York Region
