Check out our first testimonial of the 2015 tour season. We had a beautiful day exploring the island. "The day on Bell Island was a great experience, starting with a short pleasant ferry ride. On the Island itself, we visited lots of nice places, like the old lighthouse. A highlight was the visit of the old iron ore mine. Tammy, the guide, knows to tell a lot of interesting stories about life on the island. The tour can definitely be recommended. Greetings from Germany, Ch...ristoph" We have another tour this Wednesday June 17th and 22nd so call and make your bookings today. Check out our latest testimonial and pictures from our Nov 12th, 2014 tour....It was a little chilly but the weather didn't stop us..:) Tammy our guide, was informative and friendly and she clearly has a genuine passion for Bell Island. We enjoyed her fascinating stories about the island's history and the culture of its people. And whilst travelling around the island in a very comfortable vehicle, we were given several opportunities to stop and explore the many local attractions. We completed our tour with a meal at Dicks famous fish and chip shop (Yum!) before reluctantly boarding the ferry for home. We left feeling lucky to have visited such a unique and ruggedly beautiful landscape. Highly recommend this tour!!

Looks like a bad ice storm that winter on the Island..
Pic of the day!!
Another great pictures from my good friend Dave Careless. The homemade rink is in Butch Forshner’s front yard, (he’s facing the camera), and the two guys in the matching jackets and hats are Tommy and Ed Kent; I’m the farthest away from the camera. Note the Land Rover in the driveway. The more important engineering personnel had the use of a company car, as they might be called out at all hours and in adverse weather conditions, to ensure that ore production wasn’t halted for any reason. The company had a fleet of about a dozen Land Rover’s. Butch’s dad, Gerry Forshner, had one assigned to him, they had the DOSCO insignia painted on the door, and they had a number; this one was number 4 !!
A friend of mine sent me along a few old pictures he had of Bell Island. One of a few guys playing hockey (note the location), another of no.3 yard and a ore carrier stuck in ice at the Scotia Pier with a few guys jumping pans.. :) Enjoy.
More happy people.. :) Check out this testimonial taken from our web site...love to hear how we can make people smile. When they are happy we are happy. Tammy helped fulfill my husbands bucket list to see Bell Island where his dad, mom, and their parents and family grew up. We visited the Anglican,Catholic graveyards and the Iron Ore Mine tour where his dad, uncles and grandpa had worked. We stopped by the firehall with an antique fire truck out front. Johns grandpa had ...been the local firechief back in the day. We were regaled with stories of local history including a side trip to the local bakery where a purchase was irresistable. I misplaced my passport in the van and it was delivered to us the next morning as we prepared to leave Newfoundland where my husband still had a permanent smile on his face from the great time we had. Wish we had longer.......... Pam and John Hedderson Check out www.acrossthetickletours.com to book or simply call 709-325-3252
Check out these pictures! Gregory Normore, 1717- 1783, the first settler on Bell Island. He built his house in the year of 1740. He went to Carbonear to find a lady friend. He met a lovely girl named "White". They courted for a very short time and got married. He then moved her to Bell Island where they had 7 children. Mr. Gregory Normore died at the age of 66.
