Wondering why Kal Lake in Coldstream, BC isn't as blue and green in the winter? It's because when the lake cools, limestone crystals in the water disappear. Now you know! Photo credit: https://www.instagram.com/devodavies/
Fun fact: The uniquely turquoise water of Kalamalka Lake is caused by limestone deposits left by receding glaciers. When the lake warms in the summer, dissolved limestone crystallizes, giving the lake a distinctive blue and green hue.
