Pickling class with ACCFS Prevention - Official 1. Prep all items so everything goes smoothly. 2. Boil lids for 5 minutes to soften rubber seal. 3. Boil brine mixture for 5 minutes.... 4. Heat jars is oven at 200F. If too hot the jars will break when you add vegetables. 5. Fill jars with cucumbers and/or carrots, 1-2 cloves of garlic and 1 sprig of dill. Fill to bottom line on neck of jar with brine. 6. Seal jar and cool. Once cool, record date on jar and store in cool location for 6 weeks. Some websites say you can eat after 3, test them out and see and if not ready store in fridge until ready. Note: if the jar doesn't seal properly then they must be stored in fridge until ready to eat. If you have questions or run into trouble message or call me and I can help you out! 306-883-7162 Happy pickling I have also pickled beans and asparagus. Let me know if you try something different and it works out!

With frost on the way, sometimes we’re forced to pick tomatoes when they’re green to save them from the cold. To help ripen green tomatoes, store them in a warm... environment (room temperature or about 18-21C will do). They don’t need light to ripen, and actually will ripen faster if you put them in a paper bag with a ripe apple or banana! The fruit gives off a harmless gas (called ethylene) that speeds up ripening. Put the green tomatoes in the paper bag with a piece of fruit then close the bag up, and check on it every day or two.
