Finding a man overdosing in your high school washroom is not how most teens expect their day to go. These three students stepped into a scary situation, but were prepared to do what they could to save his life. Two of the boys stayed with the man, while a third went to get help. And what did they say about it? There was something going on so we needed to take action before it was too late. When we say we want everyone to be 'Empowered to Take Action' this is what we are ta...lking about http://ow.ly/n4uw50Cj5sd

Another incredible Save Story! Such a great reminder of the importance of bystander intervention. One witness called 9-1-1 Another witness started doing CPR with coaching by the Ambulance Communications Officer.... A third person made another emergency call and was notified of a public access defibrillator in a nearby school. A fourth witness rushed to get the machine and the bystanders were walked through delivering the first shock. Each of these people took action and helped to save a life! #CPRSavesLives #CardiacHeroes https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/i-should-not-be-alive-woman-thank

Today is World Restart a Heart Day and we're joining this global initiative to empower everyone to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest with bystander CPR! There are more than 40,000 out of hospital sudden cardiac arrests in Canada every year and currently less than 10% of people survive. We can save more lives from sudden cardiac arrest by spreading the word about the importance of CPR and quick access to an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). What do we want you to know o...n Restart a Heart Day? Bystander CPR and AEDs are critically important Anyone can do CPR - Just push hard and fast in the centre of the chest Anyone can use an AED - They’re not just for trained responders First Aid training helps you feel confident to take action if you witness a sudden cardiac arrest Share this quick reminder about how to perform hands-only CPR during COVID-19, it could save a life! #WorldRestartAHeart

October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month! The more we know, the more we can bring about life-saving change! Awareness doesn't just mean knowing that sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) exists, it means: Knowing how to recognize that someone is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest!... Feeling confident to perform CPR and use an AED! Spreading the word that bystander intervention during an SCA can drastically increase someone's chance of survival! A sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can happen to anyone, at anytime, with no warning signs. Approximately 40 000 Canadians suffer an out-of-hospital SCA each year but only 10% of people survive. Join us to promote sudden cardiac arrest awareness and empower everyone to feel confident to know what to do if they witness an SCA. Together we can save more lives from sudden cardiac arrest! #scaawarenessmonth

The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada has provided guidelines for the modifications to CPR during this pandemic. These changes are for instances where you may have to perform CPR in public, while reducing your own risk of exposure. We have included a downloadable poster that you can put in the workplace to inform employees of these modifications. Providing CPR is critical in the minutes before an ambulance can arrive. We want to encourage all bystanders to continue to take... action during an emergency situation. http://ow.ly/1inj50BBBz5

This is a disturbing case that is thankfully a rarity. 20 year old Timesha Beauchamp experienced sudden cardiac arrest and was declared legally dead after 30 minutes of CPR and other life-reviving measures. Based on medical readings and the patient's condition, emergency responders determined there were no signs of life and informed the family of their loss. It wasn't until several hours later that Timesha was found to be breathing by a worker at the funeral home. She remain...s in critical condition at hospital and an investigation into the situation is underway. As a lay rescuer, if you ever have to do CPR or use an AED on someone - don't ever give up while waiting for EMS to arrive. The person you are working on is 'clinically dead' and they will look dead. Remember, your job is to push hard and fast in the centre of the chest to keep blood and oxygen going to the brain and to keep the brain alive until an AED arrives or medical help takes over. Having quick access within 4 minutes to an AED is critical as every second matters. https://www.nytimes.com//michigan-woman-alive-funeral-home
