We hope back to school and back to routine have been going smoothly for all families out there! Did you know that carrying overweight backpacks or the improper use of backpacks can lead to muscle imbalance which may result in back and neck problems later on? Our tip is to limit the backpack to no more than 10% of a persons body weight as well as finding ergonomically correct packs.... We treat humans of all ages and can assist in treating any discomfort from backpack use. #liveactive #bewell #chiropracticcare #backtoschool

Movement is medicine. Keeping your spine mobile while being active helps sustain flexibility, prevents injury, and allows you to safely execute essentially all the movements you use in everyday activities. So unroll your mat and get moving. A simple yoga flow is a great place to start!

Tip Tuesday from @joellejacobsen.rd! What if I told you vegetables could boost your nutritious food intake and be super enjoyable? Here are some fun ways to include vegetables in meals and snacks! 1 Add to a smoothie. And I’m not just talking about leafy greens. Add a carrot! Or some fresh tasting cucumber with strawberries and mint? ... 2 Macaroni and cheese, with a vegetable twist. Two favourites are butternut squash or spinach and artichoke mac and cheese! And if tonight’s dinner is a boxed version, throw some peas in with it! 3 Add to guacamole or hummus. Think chopped peppers, onions or tomatoes. Or simply use those veggies to scoop. 4 Make muffins or pancakes with carrots, zucchini, or pumpkin. 5 Toss some extras on your pizza. Whether it’s store bought, take out, or homemade, there’s room for a few extra pieces of peppers, olives, mushrooms, zucchini or spinach! What fun ways do you include in vegetables?! Let us know below!

Meet our incredible dietitian, Joelle! While playing collegiate softball in Connecticut, Joelle learned just how important it was to fuel her body with the right foods. She became curious as to how food provides us with the nutrients and energy to participate in sports, fuel the mind, and aid the body in fighting illness. Her happy place is the mountains, she loves cooking any breakfast related food, and trying the new beer on tap at BNA! ... Looking for nutrition support? She’s your girl! "Start where you are. The idea of moving away from dieting and towards more intuitive eating can be scary and overwhelming. It requires a change of thinking, and it is a journey. A good place to start is to simply become aware. Think about the thoughts you have about food. Are they negative thoughts? Are they related to weight loss? Are they labeling foods as bad or good? Do you unconsciously react to foods, immediately thinking I can’t have that? These thoughts didn’t happ...en overnight and they won’t go away instantly either. It’s important to recognize how we think about food and how long we’ve been doing so. Once you’re ready to say goodbye to that way of thinking, we can move into honouring our bodies and providing it with what feels good." Repost from our registered dietitian @joellejacobsen.rd. Joelle is here to help along this journey, so please don’t hesitate to reach out and book some time with her!

Repost from @stephskophysio Toe separators If you’re having any trouble making progress with foot competency and strengthening, or finding your arch muscles a.k.a. foot intrinsics. Here are 2-typesfind them on Amazon! Check out the hugeness of my first MTP joints (big toe knuckle). Guess what, the joint is very limited, stiff, arthritic or whatever, and guess whatI run and rock climb a LOT, and sometimes I have zero pain for months, and sometimes I do. My feet are a t...estament that arthritis pain is likely more immune related than anything. If you take out the insole of your shoes and stand on it with toe separators or your toes actively splayed, you can see if the shoe is wide enough to accommodate your foot like that! If it doesn’t, the shoe is doing you and your body a disservice and you might consider wearing that shoe very infrequently, and definitely NOT for training, long walks, or running!! Happy feet !!

Why are antioxidants best taken in food form vs supplement? Learn more from our Naturopath Dr. Rena @dr.renasaini_nd! - Antioxidants are substances that stabilize free radicals. Your body naturally produces free radicals when you exercise and digest food. Environmental factors, such as UV exposure, air pollutants, smoke and pesticides are also sources of free radicals. - If free radicals can’t be controlled by the body a condition called oxidative stress occurs. Over time, th...is contributes to aging and the development of diseases. - Taking too many antioxidants in supplement form can cause side effects such as decreased performance of muscles, decreased repair, and increased cancer risk. - The great thing is that living food has the perfect amount of ratio of free antioxidants. Food allows the body to absorb it in its bioavailable form, and because of how nature packages it in food, it is protected from degrading too quickly. - It’s important to eat a variety of antioxidant rich foods like berries, green veggies and seaweed. Because they are living, they increase our vital force and make us feel more alive. Let’s get eating those colourful foods! See more
