February is Black History Month! Let’s talk about Aesha Ash! Aesha Ash is helping to pave the road for African Americans with dreams of being a ballet dancer. Once a dancer for the New York City Ballet (the ONLY African American woman at the time) she has now retired and started The Swan Dreams Project. ... The mission of this project is to help promote and expose Ballet to more African American communities. By doing so the project hopes to help increase the amount of involvement of Ballet in the black community so that it is known that the art of dance is not constrained by race or by someone’s socioeconomic position. Aesha continues to promote her project while teaching for the School of American Ballet.
