Cosmos really likes the bed!!
2 of my handsome clients today. Both of them did a fantastic job.
With so many people now taking or practicing canine conditioning, it is very important to practice the right things.
Very important thing to remember. Just to do an exercise doesn't mean that your dog knows how to do it properly. Form and precision are what makes your dog a fit and conditioned dog.
Social media and the internet is a wealth of knowledge. Some good, some bad, some very misleading. We need to focus on the dog that is in front of us. Train to the ability of the current dog not to the edited video on YouTube.
Playing is fetch is a default activity that we are all guilty of doing. Carolyn wrote a great blog as to why this is not ideal for our dog and the progressions that happen. There are many other things we can do with our dogs to make them physically and mentally tired, this may not be the best option.
Great advise once again! Us as dog owners need to read the signs. Be aware of what your dog is telling you!
As many of us are at home more now and looking for things to do with our dogs, we turn to things like circuit work and conditioning for our dogs. It is important to remember that what we see on YouTube and Facebook is not always the beginning stages. Work to what your dog needs. This is a great blog about circuit work by our friends at MCR Rehabilitation. http://www.mcrehabilitation.com//the-secret-to-circuit-suc
A great overview of the cruciate ligament, its purpose, its road to recovery. I have seen many cruciate injuries and many that don't get to return to the things they use to do. Make sure that you are working with your team of animal care providers not just using dr.google.
A great blog about achieving your training goals. I know that I am guilty of not having a set routine and sometimes setting the unrealistic goal. Having a young dog now has made me re-evaluate how I approach my goals and focus on what’s in front of me not what everyone else is doing. http://www.mcrehabilitation.com//achieving-your-conditioni
Obesity affects overall movement as well. If your playing sports with your dog it is extremely important to make sure that they are not overweight.
September is Animal Pain Awareness Month The International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM) has proclaimed September as Animal Pain Awareness Month..., and this coincides with human medicine’s Pain Awareness Month. Animals suffer from pain just like people do. Pain comes in many forms: surgical pain, arthritis and cancer related pain, just to name a few. Acute pain is obvious and distressing. Chronic pain can be subtle, and masked as getting old or slowing down. Old age is not a disease, but pain is. There are many options to treat the various causes of pain in animals including pain medications, physical rehabilitation, acupuncture, laser therapy, and therapeutic massage. The proclamation of the month is in keeping with IVAPM’s commitment to encouraging pain management for all animal species through education and advocacy. During this annual campaign, IVAPM is also encouraging various veterinary organizations to raise public awareness about pain and pain management as it pertains to veterinary patients. Pain is pets is common and treatable. Please contact us so we can work together to ensure you pet is living their BEST life. See more
